This short video depicts the formation of a standing wave. Standing waves are formed when two or more individual waves meet up and interfere in such a manner that there are points along the medium that seem to be standing still. These points are called nodes - points of NO DESplacement. There are other points along the medium that are vibrating wildly from a large positive displacement to a large negative displacement. These points are referred to as antinodes.
