Huygen's principle of secondary waves | Wave optics | Physics | Khan Academy

Huygen's principle states every point on the current wavefront acts as a source of secondary spherical waves. These secondary waves propagate outwards, in the forward direction, and a common tangent (an envelope) to all these waves constitute the new wavefront.

    I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH TO THANK YOU. BOTH MY SCHOOL AND TUITION TEACHERS ARE VERY BAD AT TEACHING PHYSICS AND I JUST GET VERY CONFUSED WHEN THEY TEACH.     06:08 Actually here , the wave contribution is proportional to ½[cos(¤)+1] and for the backwards direction cos¤ would be 180 i.e -1 , ½[-1 + 1] = 0

    Well ..I wanted to try this but was too lazy to gather all the stuff .. .so I one day just partially closed my eyes, uk with my eyelashes right above my pupil and looked at a distant street light ( kind of replicating the small hole in the cardboard) ...I did actually see how the light rays kind of scatter ...if i look at that street light (which is actually a small bulb) with my eyes open its a different picture while its different with eyes almost closed

    3:10 If the light is moving at light speed, how can the secondary waves move faster? Shouldn't any secondary waves be behind a primary wave?!

    I think that a secondary wave is just an interpretation of the primary wave after a given time, I mean it tells how the primary wave would look like in the other second or how it will travel.

    I dont get one thing, so when the plane wave came in from a source the edges didnt bend. But after going through slit, you included the round edge. But shouldnt that also apply to the wavefront before the slit since its also a finite wavefront?
