Standard Block Ball Vise GRS equivalent-Disassembly

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Disassembly of Standard Block Ball Vise.
This is cheaper version of GRS Standard Block Ball Vise.
I still use high quality equipment for jewelry making as GRS Graversmith, but for this simple pieces of equipment I buy cheaper versions and upgrade them.

Thankyou I am glad I found this before trying to open mine! The main issue I have with mine is that it doesn't clamp rotation hard enough and I wanted to find the problem... looks like it applies pressure to the spacer. Hmmm

For clamping there are only one socet set screw and rubber pin. Check if rubber pin is stucked in hole and does not press into rotating unit.

Mint help, drilled my hole then punched out the spindle. My upper bearing was rubbing on the head of the vice causing inconsistent brake resistance. Made a spacer washer. All good now.

Just got my Vevor vise in the mail and the bearings are awful. Sticky and crunchy. If I do it the way you suggest here, how woul dI get the bearings out? They would still be stuck in the bore, right? How about a threaded hole in the base of the vise that can then jack the whole assembly upwards?

I disassembled it with the help of a lever between the two halves and big hammer, but it was very difficult. And yes, Bearings are Hard pressed in the main body. Also there is a problem of rust. Block is not made from stainless steeel as described. I assume it is very low grade of stainless steel (if it is) with high content of Fe. My block has small ammount of rust between bearings which further limited dismantling. You idea of threaded hole is very good and best one to avoid damage.

Hi. I disassembled mine with the help of a lever stuck between the two halves and applying force on the lever. The video describes how to disassemble without the use of force. However, I believe that there are several different versions of ball vise on the market.

The Vevor vice is rubbish…the accessories do not fit correctly….there is so much play in the pins that correct gripping is impossible without modification

I agree that the quality is not the best. But there are probably also differences between individual pieces (poor quality control). However, I think it's still a good base for the price alone, compared to the GRS. Of course, modifications are needed.
