Like the tip on tone of voice. Very true. I think when people say someone has a quiet confidence, it is partly because that person has struck the right balance with their tone.

yes tone of voice matters. i can be firm but not aggressive, combative , out of control emotion. those who are empathetic and learn to balance it with being assertive are the best examples.

It's not always as simple as that. Ppl who are unknowing themselves, think that my facts are my opinions , fantasies or hypotheses and contradict, question etc. This is frustrating and not contributing to building self-confidence. Since i am stuck in triple burnout with many traumas, (even ongoing), stolen home, rights and money, I feel stressed, devaluated, humiliated threatened and easily get enraged trying to assert and protect myself, unfortunately. And the people who do own me and enable me to be calm muåyself, don't believe that I have such a big problem with others... and so I don't get help and support. i used to be able to be self-assertive before sleeplessness caught me up and traumas upon traumas got the better of me, in situations which were not crucial for survival. Nowadays, almost everything is and feels crucial for survival, since nerves are so tired, body so broken down, that everything is even more sensitive than originally (HSP/introvert/ Aspergerian.) Thank you very much if you would reply.to help me.

Hi. This was a couple years ago you posted, but I can relate to just getting worn out, things taking a toll, and that does become trauma. At work I do assert myself boldly, and feel confidence at that moment that I did and said the right thing, but soon I fear the backlash I'll get -- if I said something in email, I fear looking at the response in case it might upset me if the other person did not react well. I have a conflict at work right now because I dared to assert my views, and I'm on edge about it, even have jitters, because the managers did not respond well.

Gino, this is a great way of best preparing for any type of public speaking engagement, meeting or presentation, for sure. Always being familiar and knowledgeable about what you're going to speak about will make it possible to stand your ground and assert yourself.

It means you should also be competent and should have done your home work to help the team and the organization at large. Faking with a soft tone is not going to help none, not even you.

It's always important to do your homework and be knowledgeable about whatever it is you're discussing but delivery is also very important and a soft tone helps make the words you are speaking easier to accept. This is how to stand your ground without being combative. No one's faking anything in this scenario :)

I have been striving to learn this since I was 10 years old with varying levels of success. But the basic message has always been "DONT CROSS ME OR MY FAMILY I WILL BURY YOU. "
