In the comics, “Bad product” is used as a final conclusion to determine that financing “superheroism” was a massive mistake. Here, it’s used as the culmination of everything Stan believes and KNOWS is true of Homelander, and the ultimate insult to his pride and ego. Both used differently, but excellently.

My favorite part about the Boys is the relationship between Edgar and Homelander. No matter how clever or in control Homelander feels or acts Edgar is always there to put him back into his place with nothing more then a few words and a sarcastic smile. In many ways it makes Homelander even more scary because it shows he's never really in control of any situation and someone who's that powerful but never really in control makes him far more dangerous then someone who is because you never really know how he's going to react.

What makes Stan so effective against Homelander is he's never trying to actually insult him. Homelander is always trying to get a rise ofnsime kind out of Stan (like a child) whereas Stan is simply being honest about what he believes and/or what needs to he done in the company. That's why ol in this scene Homelander loses: he's trying to hurt Stan's feelings, but Stan is simply telling the truth. And as the old saying goes: truth hurts.
