Stammering in Small Children: Should Parents be Worried? | Shalby Hospitals

Dr Aarti Motiani, Pediatrician at Shalby Hospitals Naroda talks about stammering in small children of 2 to 5 years. She says that in most cases it is a normal part of growing, which is called developmental stammering.
However, parents have to be watchful and ensure the child does not have any neurological or other problem that is causing it. Even in normal children if the stammering is excessive parents should see a pediatrician who can diagnose the problem and if need be can suggest speech therapy and breathing exercises for this.
She advises parents to not worry about it too much and have patience as stammering in early childhood does not mean the child will continue stammering as she grows older.
