Stalling the Sonex

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join me on an adventurous flight from Lilydale to Bairnsdale via Orbost in the Sonex. Watch as I attempt my first stalls, gaining confidence in my flying skills and the aircraft. While the stalls were successful, the landing at Bairnsdale posed some challenges. I wasn't going to share this initially but it should be a good reminder to do better next time. Subscribe for more aviation adventures, flying tips, and stunning aerial views. Fly with me as we explore the world from above!

I've been flying for a very long time, and on occasion, still have a stinker landing. That's just going to happen from time to time. Like your videos!

I've had much worse landings than that! Good on you for putting it in the video!

Thanks! There is always room to improve. I think it will be worth mastering flapless landings for when it's gusty.

@@efficientflying8209 What works for me in the Waiex is to do a full stall landing, tailwheel first and with partial or full flaps when it is gusty. That way when the mains are down it is done flying and your speeds are slow. I think the Waiex has less rudder authority than a straight tail Sonex and using the tailwheel as part of your takeoff and landing strategy is a helpful thing.

Thanks! Yeah I've been flying pretty consistently but life and lacking an audio cable is getting in the way of making videos. I aim to start making some more soon 🤞

Well done. "That's not going on KZread" - classic. Our Waiex is pretty forgiving in stalls and will definitely drop a wing if uncoordinated. Problem with the sloped instrument panel is I think it can mess with that ball - we found that if you stall with the ball absolutely in the center it takes a lot of right pedal, and it will drop off to the right. Try doing stalls by feel or adjusting where the rudder/ball is until it stalls straight. And - I've had worse landings in our Waiex, as well as better ones. Lots of pattern work, stalls etc on my son's channel, here is one video of stalls: kzread.info/dash/bejne/apiXmMeCoZq0YdY.htmlsi=tRwrxm-QbKO6iZ90
