This is a very good video and good teacher who emphasizes important points. It taught me what I need to know about staking out a large shed project. Recommended.

How does he know the two stakes he installed 3' off the building (at the 2:00 to the 2:22 mark) are perfectly square? I understand he can eyeball 3' but how does he know he isn't slightly out of square when he pulls off the building? If that line is not square, then the rest is not. Maybe I'm trying to be too exact?

if he swings an arc say a foot or two from each stake, where they intersect is the original point.

Jonathan Vanderheyden Yep, to many variables, too many points of reference ! First point of reference, for me, would be the longest and most important point. Dumpy peg in the ground with a clout nail for exact measurement and line of reference.. All off-sets taken from this one point for that line of off-sets. Repeat for every off-set line ! Hope this helps you. Cheers mate.

I know that he’s the pro , and knows the drill. I understand the 3,4,5 square. But he lost me in pulling from so many different points and sides of the existing building. Regardless, a good instructional video.
