This is my version of the legendary Stairway to Heaven based on the live in New York performance. This song is my favorite one and I´m very excited to bring it to life in a solo guitar version. Long live Led Zeppelin!
Cheers!

I do not coment very often, but what you have done here is showing everyone how much more than just combining the melody of a song with some percussion slaps on the strings fingerstyle can be. It so often lacks personality. Therfore, I'm so glad I found this, as it is a seldom occurence to find someone to stand up to the well established and routined fingerstyle "stars" on this plattform. Keep it up man, the fingerstyle community needs this!

I am learning to play guitar. Been at it with no teacher except a few KZread tutorials for specific songs. If I can't figure out how to get started on a song by ear, I learn the first few bars from the video and then figure out the rest on my own. I have my own style, not by design but by necessity. I work at a segment until I like what I hear and continue that way until I finish a whole song. My playing skills are constantly improving, by increments, sometimes by jumps- I am beginning to learn the board. I have played a few songs for friends, some of whom are professional entertainers. They are pleased and encourage me to keep it up. I appreciate your critique of this particular song and technique because I can take something away from it for myself. I must say that I'm more of an individualist than a purist. Even so, I try in the best way that I can to stay as true as I can to the original rendition of whatever song I'm covering- within the realm of my skill set. Mostly '50s & '60s pop stuff so far but I would love to be able to do Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, ELP, ELO and Cream. I do one Crazy Horse song by Danny Whitten. Anyway I appreciate your comment.

Not a fan of stairway covers but this one couldn't have been any better. He's incredible! So aggressive but gentle at the same time. His transitions are insane. Insanely clean! Watching and listening to him is like a roller coaster. Starts out low and slow then gradually builds up, then explodes! then almost stops and let's you catch your breath for a second. Then builds back up and blows your mind again all the way till the end. Don't think I'll ever watch another stairway cover again other than this one!

I know where you're coming from. One of my favorite bands is "black sabbath". I can play a lot of their songs, but never cared to try to learn their 2 bigger hits (iron man & _____) because I was too burnt out from hearing them on the radio . Some songs are so popular, they get played into the ground by the radio & other musicians. It can take away from their brilliance. This guy did a good job of keeping it true to the original while putting enough if his style into it & making it his own too. Not easy to do.

I've actually played this song for 40 years, too, and it's been flawless -- of course, I was playing the LP which I hid inside the Christmas music jacket and only listened to when my parents weren't around -- ha. I "almost" got to see them live in 1973. I grew up and lived in a small, rural town in central Virginia, and of course we all lied to our parents and said we were going to see the Carpenters (whom I also loved), in Richmond and spending the night with somebody's aunt and uncle, when in truth, they were playing in DC, which was about a 4-hour drive away, and one of our friend's older brother was in college at Georgetown, and he was going to buy our tickets if we paid for his - tickets on the floor were $7. But at the last minute, one of the moms got suspicious and then found a picture of Robert Plant in those "leave nothing to the imagination" right jeans and home we stayed. My older brother tried to intervene and say he needed to wear his pants that tight to hit those high notes. Ha. But you're correct. Unless you've played both an electric and an acoustic, you can't know how almost impossible it is for him to have played like that on an acoustic guitar. A true master and a joy to watch. Best wishes, Patricia PS: I love watching the few videos of when they played this live in England and at Madison Sq. Gardens. They always closed their concert with this song, and Jimmy kind of sways as though he's rocking a baby in his arms for the beginning.

@beanie0112 Of course not, it's a totally different style using techniques that aren't typical of Jimmy Page's repertoire.. I think, if you asked Jimmy Page to play an acoustic version of Stairway, it would be completely different from this. I think, technically speaking, this is more inspired by the likes of Tommy Emmanuel and Chet Atkins.

I have come to the conclusion that unless we engineer humans with more hands Lucas is the pinnacle of what the instrument is capable of. I can’t imagine a level above this. What you have to give of yourself to achieve this capability is clear to anyone who has ever honed a skill through practice. All that time and effort to produce a wonderful gift for the world to enjoy. What a great thing to do with your life. This is as amazing as all his other work. I think the best way to describe his arrangements and his playing is that getting covered by him flips the script on who the fortunate party is. He not only does justice to the originals but adds enhancements and dynamics that expand on the expression like an extra dimension of the tune. If he was a movie it would be punched up with CGI and lots of action scenes and unexpected impossible plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. Truly extraordinary.

This man not only gets the song, but also he gets what Led Zep is all about. High marks all around.
