    I have been out of things for a while and folks like you are setting high standards. Some popsicle sticks with different grades of wet/dry paper always helped me get a sharp leading edge. I would never mess with the working face or the TE. Just sharpen and balance.

    I repaired full size boat for forty years and the roll at the trailing edge is the cup and with stainless I always left the trailing edge razor sharp on high performance bass boat props. after polishing the prop the trailing edge will become dull and had to go back last thing and sharpen again and rebalance again. you want the edge to be a clean break.

    Hey B, brilliant channel, thank you! Is it correct that a 106mph gps run, w/ a tidal current of, say 3mph, would more accurately be a 103mph PB run on the water surface? Not that it matters to most of us noobs, but ur attention to details is what we love!

  • @IRONCLADRC

    @IRONCLADRC

    Yes, correct. So into the current it's 109mph. Is that right!

On another topic you ever find those stuffing tube mounts that align with the motor with the coupler inside? i want to try one out on a boat im building. Seems nice for alignment purposes.

    I noticed at the end of your video when you were talking about the trailing edge of the props that there doesn’t seem to be much slack in your prop shaft between the arbor of the prop and the face of the tail shaft. It looks like you have a thrust washer in that space from what I could see. Is that a flat nylon or teflon washer or one of the types that has tiny little ball bearings incorporated into it? Just curious. I was always told that you need to leave sufficient room in the space where the thrust washer is to allow for the twisting of the drive cable to compress itself without causing any undesirable binding between the prop arbor and the tail shaft facing, thrust washer or not. Of course if you are using piano wire drive shafts you can largely ignore this issue, but I just assumed you were using regular stranded steel cable like the rest of us mortals. Curious as to your opinion on this subject. Further, have you tried running piano wire shafts before? I have thought about it, but because I am old and not exactly as fast a builder as I once was, have not actually made an effort to actually do the conversion. Besides I would have to pass the purchase of the new shafts thru the accounting department (yes, I’m happily married, too and would really like to keep it that way if you know what I mean.) before making the switch. Anyway, thanks for your videos, I find them very entertaining and informative. Glad to see you were able to make some runs without a bunch of Karen’s hassling you today. Nothing ruins a nice day running fast boats like some jack wagon yapping about this or that being illegal or against the rules, etc. Cheers from NorCal.

    Yeah it's a standard. 187 (3/16) flex, I tend to run less gap with the larger cables, less twist/compression IMO. Smaller .150 cables I'd leave more gap. This is one of the only boats I run the Teflon thrust washers on, I normally don't use them no reason other than simplicity. If this boats was any heavier or I decided to run larger more aggressive props I'd actually leave a little more gap.. thanks for Watching, and yes I've also thought about running piano wire setups, seriously thought about trying it on the Deltaforce vortex build but decided to keep things simple
