Thanks for the reply EmmWeh. I'm a Scottish immigrant to Auckland New Zealand. I am retired and love U-Tube. I watch trains to relax. I was a train spotter as a boy in Hawick Scotland and my tenement was next to the Railway line.We had a high gradient and I loved hearing the steam locomotive trying to push the goods train up the hill and the wheels slipping in the rain, usually with a loco behind and one in front. Trains don't kill people cars kill more people than all the wars of the 20th Century. Auf Wiedersehn!

Frequent stops results in slower operation, things can be speeded up with skip stop operation with A and B trains during peak hours. Is there some history on the dual gauge operations? It appears that more of the line was either dual gauge or converted from narrow gauge to standard. A lot of RRs and trams in Europe are meter gauge, they fit into narrow streets and sharp turns better.

I was in Stuttgart 2001-2007. I miss the time there.
In the centre of town it's like a subway. In Russia also there is such a tram, in Volgograd.
It’s beautiful I’m enjoying watching the beauty of Stuttgart thru the videos of the U tram line on KZread
Reminds me a bit of Boston. Similar characteristics - part street running, part subway, part median. Interesting to see that it was dual guage at one point.
I love my city Stuttgart and our subway. Thanks for uploading this video!!

This is what we need on the east Coast of the US. Less automobiles. More energy efficient Lower cost to the citizens. But, all the political types tag it as Old fashioned. But in reality it's The way of the future.

Well, certainly not fast, but quicker than walking. However, those living or working between stops have a long walk, which impacts those carrying heavy loads, the elderly, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, all of which limits it's future here.

I think, that is because the train tracks are placed along the road and not above or under the road, this makes the construction of stops cheaper and cheaper means, that you can place more stations .

Frequent stops results in slower operation, things can be speeded up with skip stop operation with A and B trains during peak hours. Is there some history on the dual gauge operations? It appears that more of the line was either dual gauge or converted from narrow gauge to standard. A lot of RRs and trams in Europe are meter gauge, they fit into narrow streets and sharp turns better.

it is -in some places. like your hometown, too, I guess. Only thing special about Stuttgart is that it's sitting in some kind of a valley, which makes it kinda special and what also makes public transport incredibly expensive. Because they need more power to climb the hills. And yeah, that is really their argumentation. -.-

Nice ride, despite the weather, in what appears to be an industrial, or workers', city. Lots of stations - only one or two minutes from one another. Interesting, how they keep the tracks separate, so cars can in no way happen upon them! How did you get to ride in the cab? Did you need to get some prior, official permission or did you just talk to the driver?

Dalton Chew Because what you now have in Stuttgart is a light rail system that used to be a classic tram system. In some parts they left rests of the former meter gauge because there are still running historical trams on special occasions.
