I could not be happier! This is the exact problem I have and the idea of simply installing a shelf for the dryer to sit on so you can access the dryer vent for cleaning and ensure the gas supply and vent connection are solid by moving the washer into and out of its position below. This is ingenious solution! Thanks so much!

Here's a tip: to avoid lint trap inside the ducts especially around the bends, connect the fittings from a male to female in the direction on the air flow. Trapped lint can lead to a lint fire.

maybe you can keep a folding stool on top of the washer so you can reach the dryer controls. The space I'm trying to use for an all-in-one combo is just as frustrating. I have a 27" unit stuffed in a 27=1/4" space because the contractor made the space too small. It is also on a built-in shelf 8 or so inches from the floor (which is fine if its going to stay there but not if you want to move it). All connections are directly behind it. The contractor had to shave off 1/4 from the wall joy removing the plywood on one side, just to get it in at all. Only good thing is that it doesn't need venting. I swear if something is going to go wrong it will be with appliance installation set-up! I am thinking of selling the brand new appliance I haven't even used for something that fits. Anyway, I enjoyed your watching and thought you were inventive. S for solutions! PS contractor was supposed to move it back out for me so I could make the connections and paint the walls but he didn't help out this 70 year old. Too much work for him I guess.

Good job my man thumbs up. You can actually put a drawer in the middle of both of them to store your stuff. And in the future I will double up that wood so it doesn’t bow because those metal brackets to be honest or not that good. I ordered them custom because I get 2 inches thickness and the metal is absolutely amazing but it’s too expensive each bracket can cost you up to hundred dollars. Or you can run 2 x 2 across and then put the plywood on top of it it helps it so it doesn’t bow over time.

oxford821... no doubt! Builders, contractors, and architects do not seem to have good understanding of how dryers work... they build these tight closets for washers and dryers and leave little to no space to do anything. there is no way for you to ensure the dryer hose is short enough or not crushed when you push it back... so building a shelf is a great idea! Have you seen the slim periscope vents? Very low profile and eliminates all the ridges of a flexible hose. I like the shelf idea but at 5'2", I would need a large step stool to reach the dryer, lol. I just stacked my W/D and even without a shelf in between I find it hard to read the controls from where I stand.

Best thing you did to help.smooth out the elbow with tape so it's a smooth transition..I just went to put a new Dryer because mine ke0t cutting off,...would over heat.mine exhausts down through the wall into the concrete slab then across understand 25 feel then pops up outside in a overgrown difficult to access area,.problem starts when plumber p.lumbs it ,they often don't use any pictures glue and especially don't pressure test it,so when it rains water seeps into the below grade area around the 6 8nch dryer exausted pipe and then seeps into the pipe filling the water level reducing capacity of pipe which slows air flow which enables lint to catch and get hung up inside the pipe.in the elbows in the wall .and in the pipe lint hits the stagnant water and sinks ,which makes it so when the water dries up after a while, the lint remains as a hardened rigorous blocker of air flow. Even when dry.but when I took off the vent at back of dryer, it was packed solid so no air flow could escape ,thus burning up my dryer memory board as it does random acts of beeps and miss functions.but right at the spot you were smoothing was whee it hung up on the sheet metal in the 3lbow.....

how thick was your shelf? my concern would be the need for a 'cross support' 2 x 4 to go left to right in the middle between the 2 x 4's on the wall. or is the dryer not 'heavy enough' to where it would warp? i have a 36" opening (left to right) where it will allow plenty of air flow on either side. but this is exactly what i was looking for because i often thought "wouldn't it be easier to get access to the connections if it were on a shelf?" good call on the tape though. those screw on clap bands are useless... and the 'spring clip' kind are even worse

Matt Albrecht The shelf is 3/4” plywood. The brackets on back and left side are steel, and stick out really far under the shelf. The dryer isn’t “that heavy” for the shelf, the weight is evenly distributed and it’s very solid.

Ironically it probably would have worked better if they had just connected the flex duct to the elbow at the base of the wall. At least then there would have been a place for it to lay in a semi-straight path when everything is pushed back in. But that whole setup should have just been designed better to begin with to allow some sort of access door or something to the point of use utilities.

That doesn't sound correct. While hot air naturally rises, lint does not, it tends to fall. That means if this particular dryer was vented upwards, lint would collect directly behind the dryer in the elbow where it could not be cleaned out without removing the dryer. The way it's ducted with the vent going down, as he said in the video, he can clean the lint that collects in the lower elbow easily from outside the house without removing anything other then the outside screen. That actually sounds considerably safer to me. Thanks for bringing this point up. It's something to always consider, how can the lint be cleaned out of the ducting? In this case, it can be easily cleaned.

@@ashleypreston6140 the only time code allows for venting downward thru the floor is when you live in a trailer home.
