ST40 campaign results 2023

Ғылым және технология

What did we achieve in the latest campaign with our record-breaking ST40 spherical tokamak? In this video, Head of Plasma Systems, Dr Steven McNamara, presents our main achievements, including 'diverted' plasmas, and outlines the four main goals with ST40 following our successful 100 million degrees campaign last year. “All of our ST40 campaigns are focussed on the goal of getting commercial fusion energy on the grid”, he says.

The solenoid-free design sounds super interesting. Can we get some more info about it?

Hi great channel, Although I'm no expert, my friend told me that its possible, in theory at least, technology could be eventually used to make a much smaller more convenient, cheaper to operate, portable power supply to run a lorry or even a car safely & economically? I just read Elon Musks Spacex fusion concept envisions a hyper-car powered by a compact fusion reactor! How near do you think we are to making a production fusion powered car? Also do you have any thoughts on the most realistic potential solutions of creating a better power supply small enough to power a jet suit- like those using gas turbines by the British Marines?

Hi! I was talking to a fusion expert a couple months ago, he was comparing the different commercial approaches to fusion and I asked him why Tokamak Energy was not in his list. He responded that he would include TE but unlike the other commercial endeavours TE was not publishing any papers on their results. Will TE be publishing any results officially or will the only source of information be these short announcements and marketing blurbs?

Hi, thanks for the question. We regularly publish scientific papers on our results. As an example, here's a link to the Institute of Physics peer-reviewed paper on our achievement of 100 million degrees Celsius - iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1741-4326/acbec8
