    LOL You guys have the best adventures. Never ask the question "What could go wrong?" The answer is never favorable. The drone as an artificial brain and you have the real deal, so it's never the drones fault when it crashes. You all definitely need a Plan B bag. The Plan B bag should always have a change of clothes, extra batteries, water, and now, just because of this gig, hiking boots. LOL Sorry. It's probably wasn't funny at the time, but because no one got hurt and you didn't lose a expensive piece of equipment, it was a short film that was very entertaining. We all can relate. this one doesn't have forward sensors, but it does have down facing sensors... not sure why they wouldn't have told it to increase altitude before it hit, but maybe that's a good question for the manufacturer

  • @MrCompsci311
    @MrCompsci3117 жыл бұрын

    Your X-Star might have cleared the hill if you set a slightly higher "go home" altitude, perhaps? That's what it will do when signal is lost. I have mine set to 395 ft which is enough to clear just about anything around here. Beautiful shots, though! I wish I had such amazing scenery.

  • @SailingSophisticatedLady

    @SailingSophisticatedLady

    7 жыл бұрын

    yes that is a reasonable idea, only problem is if the drone runs to low battery and tries to go to auto-home, that increase in altitude could be what kills the battery and causes it to fall out of the sky... that wouldn't be good either... but I get what you're saying.. we have it set to 100ft which will clear anything around where we normally fly, but this was extenuated circumstances and just didn't expect the problem.. which still makes it our fault no matter how you look at it

    Seems like a reasonable and clear question. The commenter is aware it's a commercial, different from Rick's videos. They (the St. Vincent government obviously) are paying Rick to make this commercial using his footage. I'd also like to see the finished product. Rick, is there any way you can provide a link to the final product to the commercial when available?

    SXM has a beautiful airport so why not here as well. everything takes forever to build in the Caribbean. Jamaican time. I watched a single worker for 10 days work on a home in Jamaica in 2007 and he did it brick by brick. And I went to the place that makes the bricks by hand. 2 guys in a back yard with a home made brick mold machine. It was cool to watch them in action. Peace Out.

    See, this is one thing that chaps my ass about these drone developers.... You have to wonder if they actually think this stuff through or they just throw something together so they can sell it to the masses.... Even DJI has failed at this one basic logical thought... Almost always the home location is exactly the same as the pilot/controller. When a drone loses signal because of the lack of "line of sight", why would you program the drone to start a path in a straight line back to the controller that it just disconnected from... flying into the very thing that blocked the "line of sight" in the first place. (building or mountain). Simply stupid. The Phantom 4 and Mavic Pro have obstacle avoidance but even that does work if you were in sport -mode or atti-mode at the time you lose signal. You would think they would be smarter than this... but nope. If I were involved in development, I would default the machine back to P-mode and if the battery allowed I would calculate a path back to home using the previously known "good airspace". i.e. the arc the craft took to get were is before it lost signal. This is a serious problem... I have nearly lost several drones into buildings because of the RTH feature on disconnect. One thing is for sure... there is now way I would buy one of those orange drones you got. I'll stick with DJI.

  • @romano5497

    @romano5497

    Don Beckham Haha u stooge....The so called orange drone is the X-Star premium made by Autel Robotics....its actually a awesome drone for a great price. BTW a couple of ex DJI employees jumped shipped & went to work fot Autel Robotics, thats why it looks so much like a Phantom 3/4.... Also good experienced pilots dont need obsticle avoidance all these newbies that think its the next best thing are fools. Obsticle Avoidance doesn't sense thin branches or powerlines & if ppl are relying on it they shouldn't be flying drones they should be flying paper planes

  • @donbeckham

    @donbeckham

    7 жыл бұрын

    I knew it's name... and I called it the orange drone because little orange piece of sh*t was probably too harsh. I see the X-Star as nothing more than a copy of the Phantom 3 which is the same price as the X-Star premium. Even "good experienced pilots" crash. Many of those crashes can be mitigated with collision avoidance. I own the P4 and the Mavic Pro and I assure you it does see small branches. Power lines are currently a challenge if there are no poles in the field of view. Solid colored walls are also not recognized. It's not perfect... YET! But back to the specific topic at hand, the pilot was not in control, so no amount of experience would have avoided this craft flying into a structure in RTH except maybe an experienced pilot would not fly behind a structure or beyond the maximum range. We fly these things FPV and the more technology we have at our disposal the better. Using your argument, experienced pilots shouldn't need stabilization or even GPS and RTH. When do you say it's too much technology. I guess only inexperience drivers and fools should like anti-lock brakes and traction control on our cars? I am far from a "newbie" and I assure you computer vision systems are "the next best thing" and only a fool would not recognize that.
