Gav, nailed it again! And I completely understand the frustration when the phone doesn't fit! Why car makers don't make a phone stand somewhere? They all know we need to store it somewhere ... And then we buy those ugly add-ons (grow up!) that don't work half the time. 🙄

At least the dealers in Germany and the Netherlands have it listed and you can order it. Also according to search sites there are a few used ( demonstration ) ones available.

I'd REALLY love to see at least some of these reviews take in some twisty-turney metal roads. To anyone not familiar with Kiwi roads, they are unpaved roads that have a gravel surface. For (years) living in the UK I'd use the term I'd grown up with (& knowing no differently), only to receive countless blank looks in return. Ironically, on a day trip up to Rhosilli Bay in South Wales, an (English) couple who'd just returned from a holiday in Aotearoa, explained to me that a 'metal' road was actually an old English term for an unpaved road. Weird how you come across answers to things in the most unlikeliest of places.

I’d like to see more battery information included in your reviews ie chemistry, degradation and manufacturer. Batteries are probably the most important component in EVs and the performance is improving all the time. So it’s likely that is the most likely aspect of a new car that will have the most impact on resale value and depreciation, essential factors in deciding on investing in a new car

I don't agree, battery chemistry way outlast the life of the car and is not going to have any effect on the experience of owning the car..

Hey that's interesting. I hope you enjoy the vehicle and I'm keen to hear what you think after a few months of ownership. In my personal (worthless) opinion, I think SsangYong haven't really pushed this vehicle hard enough in advertising because it seems like a decent set of wheels. -Gav

3 months in - fantastic vehicle, super roomy, great looking (I had the ugly wheels replaced by 18" alloys by the dealer), great features- love the speed limiter, amazing sound system, amazing cornering stability. SSangyong have a reputation for build quality, so very satisfied with my first new vehicle purchase 🙂

Thanks for the review, this is a good option for us in NZ. Good that it can tow a fair bit, that seems to be lacking in most EV's. How good are the roof rails, would they take a couple of kayaks or a roof box, what is the rating for those rails? And finally so nice to see a mid range EV SUV that doesn't have a wretched sunroof, that's a real turn off for me on so many of this cars competitors - why do the Chinese brands think a sunroof is luxury when it's just one thing to go wrong and leak?

61kWh battery and only 330km of range. Seems very inefficient, esp if that's WLTP. Gavin, did you happen to note the actual numbers during your test drive? And how was the regen on L3. Weak like BYD or strong like Tesla.. or super strong like the Polestar 2.

  • @EcotricityNZ

Regen was not as strong as a Tesla so one-pedal driving isn't possible in the Korando e-Motion, unfortunately. Tesla is certainly the king of efficiency!

Gavin, would you mind mentioning the safety rating in addition to the usual parameters (like price, range, acceleration etc.) in future EV test videos, particularly for those Asian brands that haven't been scoring well on safety in the past. That'd be great.

Why don’t reviewers ever look at total cost of ownership when reviewing cars, especially evs. Simply including depreciation in the value analysis, a model 3 is a much better value. Would you buy a smart phone where you do not receive updates to operating system and software or can never download new software? EVs are basically computers on wheels. If you include safety, performance, handling, driver assist tech, comfort etc, a base model 3 becomes such a value proposition compared to these cheap EVs, it’s a bit of a no brainer which ev,to,buy.

I certainly agree, but if gav did that then Half the video would be spent looking at spreadsheets instead of driving and banter. Your point is valid IF you have over $80k available to spend on a car. If you don't then these vehicles may be what you can afford.

FWD makes zero sense for an electric vehicle. They should either be AWD or RWD.

No complaints here with the FWD Polestar.

  • @VipreNZ

    @VipreNZ

    Жыл бұрын

I mean it works, but it would have been better if it was RWD. When putting your power down, your car would be leaning back on the rear wheels. FWD EVs either spin their wheels when you put power down, or have a very tapered power delivery to avoid it. The reasons for making a FWD car just aren't there with an EV. With an ICE car it makes sense be cause you can avoid either wrecking the weight distribution (eg Porsche 911) or requiring additional complexity to transfer the power from the engine in the front to the wheels in the rear. With an EV the motor is tiny, and can easily move to the rear while the front can still contain other gubbins like aircon, cooling, inverter, etc.

@@VipreNZ You are right 100%. Must be either because the cars were designed to have models with ICE too or is still cheaper o have FWD. Less cabling, less complication in back axle, not sure.
