SsangYong Korando e-Motion Electric review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I'm the first journalist in the UK to drive the new SsangYong Korando e-Motion - the pure-electric version of the Korando.
It arrives in early 2022 with a 210-mile range and a price tag of between £31,995 and £37,995. But has it arrived to late to the party or could this be one of 2022's best value EVs? I find out.

Great review, Batch! It's really exciting times at SsangYong and we can't wait for this car to be driven by more and more people! ^Tommy

I really like the look of this test driving one at Preston’s Writtle Thursday i just need more ££
Brilliant quality and good price,I think ssangyong has got a winner on its hands!
I m happy for ssangyong that they now have n ev, and a selling point against the sportage and tucson, the only korean of that size suv thats a full EV, so that deserves kudos and respect, I do wish ssangyong well and hope it succeeds commercially for them.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. A welcome addition to the Korando Range
I like the Korando and this electric version seems good too! I could do without the blue detailing outside though, and better alloys. The current alloy design I thought they were hubcaps. But otherwise should be good, I do wonder though if it's too late to turn around the brand's reputation with the Korando.
Awesome and perfect, Nice to see my design(140kW Power train) from Mahindra Electric on road.
Going out on your own James, well done, subscribed.

👍 Good review always look forward to your new videos
I've been waiting for a review of this car, I've even watched a couple of European reviews to get an idea of what it's like even though I couldn't understand them. Not a big fan of the blue accents but could work better with other colours options. My partner loves my ZS ev but not the range and she now likes SUVs because of it, maybe this could temp her. I'm tempted even though range not as much as the new ZS ev long range. Great review and I've subscribed because I liked your content from other channels I've seen.

Of course, the entry level New facelift Long Range MG ZS EV SE with 72 kWh has considerably more range around 280 miles for similar money with entry model well within the new PiCG and higher trim models like this reviewed car currently list price missing out on the grant. Early in 2022 there will be the new Standard Range models with 50i kWh and expected range just over 200 miles probably well under the PiCG cap although we are waiting to have them announced when expect to upgrade from my current Gen 1 44 kWh model
hello batch just seen has your driveing all l can see is this huge black dashboard could be the camera setting I think this car is very Bland your reviews are always the best top notch
thank you!
Thanks! 👍😃
Good first review and one to watch especially since the Koreans do EVs well. A 250 range would make it more interesting. Was that a mistake on your part, I assume it's an auto handbrake?
I was waiting to see what the Korando was going to be like, But bought a Mokka e, haven't missed out as the range is similar on both and the Mokka is lot more plush inside (ultimate) for lot less money.

Lee M You made the right choice The Mokka's a lovely car & sticking with Opel/Vauxhall (Stellantis). The Korando e-Motion is a fine car but SsangYong's future is still very uncertain according to this latest article. pulsenews.co.kr/view.php?sc=30800028&year=2022&no=8823

SsangYong Korando is a popular caravan towing car, it would be interesting to know what kind of range this electric version has dragging its max 1500kg tow capacity.

Why are all new cars shaped like breeze blocks? My ioniq can nearly match thst range with 38kwh.
@barryhaeger4284
2 жыл бұрын
An excellent choice. The push for larger batteries I think is misplaced with EV design and probably driven by marketing rather than the interests of the owner-drivers of EVs. The original Ionq nailed the formula only a shame it had to share it's platform with the Hybrids in the range. With rising energy costs and the bottleneck of battery production developing brick-like EVs which eat their range as soon as they see a motorway slip road is all wrong. any EV can be efficient at city speeds with high Regen, but the real-world test is hitting the open road and being as usable as an ICE car.
This looks far nicer than what MG have done to their ZS EV, the latest version of that looks like an appliance at the front. This Korando suits the changes to the front.
Thank you for reviewing
How long will the manufacturer be around, though?
Do you get sun in your country?
The 2024 one has just arrived 300 miles range. Much better car
May I ask if this model will be avaible in Czech republic??? thanks a lot for answer:)
Looks a good EV, but I think the price is a touch high for the brand, They seem to be majoring on being a bigger car than " price segment" Still watching,but what's the price of the car as tested?

Ultan Farrelly. Hi Bankrupt SsangYong were acquired recently by a small electric bus maker (Edison motors) & are deemed a 'Start up' Co a lot of questions have been asked about their (Edison's) financial (Lack of funds) viability to run SsangYong?. SsangYong recently agreed a deal with Saudi Arabia's SNAM to supply them with knocked down (Kit form) versions of its Musso & Rexton models for assembly in Saudi Arabia. Their future is still very sketchy tbh steer clear.
I owned a Tivoli for 3 years was great only problem with ssangyong is the lack of dealership network for services and warranty work I like the korando but bit to big for my drive unfortunately

Anthony Devono. Hi I'd (from new) a 2016 Tivoli XLV 1.6L diesel From day one nothing but trouble with it at low mileage eventually got shut of it last year TG!..The Co's bankrupt and has been bought over by a tiny Electric bus manufacturer (Edison) as a 'Start up Co'..My advice would be to steer clear of SsangYong.
I hope the ultimate is £29,999 before the subsidy
Have watched this twice and appreciate the detail and interest you give these reviews…one question though: Why is the test vehicle interior so dirty? All I want to do is get my car vac and clean it! Did Ssangyong provide it in this condition? Anyway, great to see what I think bodes well for the makers future…including the J100 Torres EV which shows great potential for lower cost EV’s in the near future.

lots of space under the bonnet... pity they didn't spend some time and invest in pushing cabin forward, increasing wheelbase so more space for passengers, rather than using existing ICE body.
It's missing the awd and longer range
When is this coming already 😂if it's on par price wise with the MG4 I think it would beat MG especially with the right marketing campaign

Review seems good but feel like it can't compete with mg zs. Also a lot more support for mg.
Looks great, pity about the blue bits all over the place, takes the class away which the other models in the range offer.
210 miles not bad?
Something interesting to keep an eye on over the next few months. Looks a bit pricier than the MG ev cars. I am curious about this one. I’m sure end of the year they will release a version with 250+ miles real world. Who knows

I think its going to have to be a lot cheaper than the MG ZS. Just doesn't look anywhere near the quality or looks and much lower range. Gunna have to be close to 20k to compete with the ZS

200 mile range is not impressive. Many cars are now at the 300 to 600 mile range and still improving month on month as technology improves. Nio's new ET5 has 620 miles. BYD says their new platform 3.0 will enable range of more than 1,000-kilometres.
@thomasm7108
2 жыл бұрын
Nio and BYD aren't available in the UK, the nio also uses battery swapping technology which also isn't available in the UK. Most electric cars that are at a more sensible price have a range of around 200 miles
@scottb6046
2 жыл бұрын
This is just a first attempt by SsangYong. They are about to bring out the J100 (2023) and have recently signed an agreement with BYD to develop better battery range. For a first attempt, it's not bad. Wouldn't touch MG based purely on the fact that the company is now owned by the Chinese Communist Party. Their sister brand LDV is also in got water in Australia for rust issues and other defects (see LDV T60 problems and issues Facebook page for more on that). I would trust Korean vehicles over Chinese any day of the week. Well done SsangYong.
@01theloneranger
2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasm7108 The Nio can be charged anywhere like a regular EV, it just has the additional option of a battery swap. you don't have to take advantage of it, just charge at home if you want. Many of the Chinese EV's plus Ford, VW etc will all be in Europe by the end of this year with 300 miles plus range, so better to wait a few months. Early adopters (rich people) go ahead and buy now and regret the range later.
@thomasm7108
2 жыл бұрын
@@01theloneranger yeah but you can bet that the people who buy the nio would buy it for the battery swap because they don't want to 'wait 5 hours' for it to charge.
James you've turned into a bit of a bear ...😀
Hmm this is still a converted ICE vehicle. No frunk, a prop shaft tunnel and, assuming the colours on the video are correctly represented, even the number plate lights are still filament bulbs and the headlights look suspiciously halogen. As a 2WD SUV this can only win on value.
Probably be around £40,000 !

The wheels just look so wrong, think a bit more effort could have been put into there design.
Getting close to $75k NZ is not affordable.

A creditable effort no doubt, but SsangYong are still hanging onto that garish Oriental styling. Why do they style their cars like Buddhist temples? The alloys are hideous. They look like cheap Halfords plastic wheel trims. For all that, it ought to be a practical proposition, and being Korean it will be well built and reliable. Would the heat pump be available on lesser spec cars? That might matter to some potential buyers.... Competitively priced too, which will win it fans.....

Nice review! Very informative one. Let me add a comment, though. You could have been more focused on the differences between petrol engine version and electric one. For instance, the boot and back seats are exactly the same in both models, it is a waste of time talking about that as we all know Korando C300 for 3 years already. But apart from that, thank you, anyway.
Looks very dated already. Bit of a mishmash.
