Ss Brewtech Unitank: cleaning and passivation

Cleaning the Unitank and preparing it for it's first use, I clean it with TSP, passivate with Citrisurf 77, and do a final clean with PBW.

Thank you for posting this video. This process sucks but is absolutely necessary and often overlooked. Been cleaning all of my new fittings, kettles, and kegs for the last two days and I’m still not done! The beer will be worth it though. Cheers!

Thanks for watching! It's a long tedious process but it is definitely worth it to have a clean uni with clean fittings.

Just got my 2nd SSB 1/2bbl uni. I was going to message you to ask about your initial clean/passivate process when I saw your video on the new 1bbl . Perfect timing! Thanks for another helpful and informative vid.

Came across this today and it's beyond helpful! I've a 7 gallon BME coming tomorrow and was going through what I needed to do to get this ready. Question... what about extra parts that you may have purchased with it? Just clean on the side?

  • @ReactionBrewingCompany

Yes, just clean them on the side in a bucket.

How do you ensure that the bottom of the cone is clean? That looks impossible to reach.

The Citrisurf is a citric acid based product with some additives in it, works great. Basically the same processes, cheers!

Thanks for posting. Also, thanks for getting back to me on FB about passivating and cleaning. Will you be posting a pressurized transfer video with this unitank?

I'm not sure, I will try to remember to grab a video if I can. I have other transfer videos posted for my original BME, the Brite, and my half bbl unitank. I will try to get some of this when I'm ready to transfer it.

Can you link to what wheels you purchased? The ones they offer state they are not recommended for use with a full tank.

What pump for CIP and what sprayball? Can't get my CIP setup to work properly

It's a chugger max, it does 17gpm. If you're using a regular chugger it'll probably struggle to cip. I have a riptide I use for my mash tun now and it will barely spin the cip ball. The ball is just a cheap one off Amazon. Whatever the cheapest one with prime shipping was.

If my beer taste like my conical. Does that mean I need to passivate my conical because I never done that and I only discovered I need to. So is that why my beer has a hint of the conical I fermented it in?

If you're getting a metallic taste it could need to be cleaned better. They come with a lot of oil in them. Do a hot pbw wash/rinse and then soak the inside really well with citrisurf. It'll clean the oils and passivate the stainless.

@@drakepipinrose5055 I'd do it to everything that is stainless the beer touches. You could have some rust forming on the stainless too.
