    When I first started SRS, before I got a foot ascender and knee ascender, I did a sit and stand with a foot lock of the rope. Not much harder then foot ascender, you just have to get the foot lock down as you are sitting into your system. With MRS, I prefered doing modified body thrust instead of standard body thrust, so it wasn't too difficult to get used to. With rope walking in free space, I seem to always have an issue with keeping my weight forward. My arms get too pumped from holding myself forward, and have to take a break. Any tips?

    Very true about the foot locking. You must be a beast. I can’t foot lock anymore after my accident but I’ve done it before with a doubled rope. Doing an 11mm single line would be tough! As far as your question- arms do get pumped. Experiment with different types of grippy gloves. Good grip makes a huge difference. Hand ascender is an option to really reduce arm fatigue, but it will limit the flow of walking. Conditioning is the main thing. Wear the arm compression sleeves and it will help reduce cramping or muscle failure. Also make a constant mental note to keep your heels underneath your center of gravity as best as possible. Hope these tips help!

    @@blueoakats Thanks for the tips. I wouldn't call myself a beast, can't do the traditional secured footlock with long prusik very well. I just footlock the rope, stand, sit in my harness, repeat. I'm a cheater, lol. I think for foot locking the rope it comes down to how much of a heel there is on the sole of your boots. The last pair I had there was too much heel, and I found it difficult to coordinate doing the lock with the ball of my foot instead of the arch. I use 11.7 mm rope

    Been climbing 35 plus years have and have ever device ever made most of them are hanging on a wall. I am quite good at srt but I hardly ever do it anymore it’s just not necessary 99% of the time. I can get up there just as fast drt and no extra gear. And I can work on my way up. Have a few younger guys 35 yrs old. who work for me who are great climbers I still smoke them at 55.

    After having climbed DRT for over 38 years, I don’t see any real advantage to SRT, especially as 95% of my work is take-downs. That said, I ascend on single rope with a frog system, but switch to double rope to work.

    The main advantage is speed of ascent, so for Climbing tall trees without the use of spikes SRT is a fantastic option. It’s also a great option for rescue situations. A pre-installed SRT line could be the difference in saving a climbers life as minutes matter. However, I agree with you that DDRT is smoother and I enjoy working from it when I have to negotiate large crowns. Check out the video that I’ll be posting on Friday, which gives a little more comparison between the two systems and goes over the gear better. I give a few gear reviews.
