That he gets out there and dances with the kids shows how much he cares about them especially with his uniform on. He is an awesome SRO.

Congrats on the well deserved promotion. I am also a SRO but I could NEVER get up there in front staff and students and dance. Hell no! But good on your for doing it. Most ppl don't understand the balance of the relationships SRO's have with young ppl at their schools. We can't act like "traditional" cops all the time and have to build rapport anyway we can because we wear so many different hats. If dancing with students build bridges then so be it. Stay safe out there.

I have an interest on becoming a police officer and being an SRO because I want to help kids who are at risk for Gangs, Dealing, depression, Bullying. I feel that the trick to slowing down crime is prevention and the best way I think is to prevent it when they are young and bound to make many mistakes. But my question is do u have any tips on applying and police academy. I’m planning on doing a ride along to see how the job really is.

@@joesmith7509 I'm not defending Child molesters, they deserve to be punished like any other criminal, however, they are people too! Sick, not right in head, disturbing? Yes, but people. It's not right that inmates in prison's prey on child molesters just cause of the crime's they committed, and think they need to be punished! They are getting punished! Everyone has done something wrong to some extent, cause we're all human and we all make mistakes. One can only hope, being incarcerated changes them, and makes them better. On another side note? Keep in mind, that PO works for a boss. It's his Job! He puts his life on line to "protect and serve" or "Serve and protect" however you wish to claim it. But most importantly, he does what his boss tells him. He may choose to change to other departments, cross letteral change his skill set, etc, but ultimately, where ever he goes within his department, his boss gonna ask, tell him, to do something, and if he wants his job, he does so! Not cause he wants to. Cause he's loyal to his commander, and his fellow officers, so that they learn to build trust in him. It doesn't matter if he agrees with decision or not! If he tells his boss no, or I won't, or I can't, or I don't want to, simply because he doesn't agree with the order, than his commander, as well as the rest of his fellow officers, suddenly lose their trust in his loyalty! One thing a police officer must NEVER lose or give up, is loyalty among his fellow officers, when their lives are on the line, they have to know they count on each other! Think whatever you choose, have what ever opinion you wish, just some tid bit of info for you to consider, a book should never be judged just by it's cover!!

I'm in the UK, and originally saw this video on facebook. What a fab officer you are Cpl Ryan Tillman. You can see from the reaction of the kids, how well liked and respected you are. Kudos to you, and well done on your promotion too!

Awww congratulations on promotion and those kids will be with you for life and always have you in their hearts and minds! Unfortunately my high school resource officer passed away from cancer that was incurable and she still worked and took care of everyone like family.
