I'm from Mangalore, India. 35 years ago a Srilankan friend and colleague of mine gave me an audio tape with non-stop Srilankan Baila songs. It was so nice, I don't know how much I and my family loved it. A relative of mine borrowed the tape and did not return as the tape got damaged because of playing it repeatedly. Srilankan baila and Mangalorean/Goan sonds sound similar because of Portugese influence. Now I go to KZread and listen to Srilankan music. Love you Srilanka.

But violin was used heavily in early days specially before 40 then shifted to acoustic guitars in 50s and from 70s its lead electronic. Just wanted share this info and enjoy the music mate. Yesss it has the same roots in African slaves that were brought to Sri Lanka by the Portuguese so that’s why. Many were from Congo.

But violin was used heavily in early days specially before 40 then shifted to acoustic guitars in 50s and from 70s its lead electronic. Just wanted share this info and enjoy the music mate. i don't know the meaning of the lyrics but i love the music. i born in Sri Lanka soil, brought up and living in India.
This is not real Sri Lankan music btw, it has just become popular because of European influence in the coastal areas. Now it has become mainstream. But traditional, classical and folk music styles are the real sounds of Sri Lanka.
