I love the way both Bully & Lobster just laugh when they're having a good time playing bass. Absolutely precious.

Here is my review of the Squire Paranormal Rascal bass. I promise no honeymoon or scathing views. Here we go! I bought this simply because I thought it looked cool. I was bummed that the shell pink one sold out in 5 seconds, so I waited for the 2nd batch to become available. Modifications: Right away, I didn’t care for the selector switch, and a friend of mine suggested switch the value of the pots. The bass comes with a 250k tone pot and a 500k volume pot. I switched it to a 500k tone pot and 250k volume pot, and added a blend pot to replace the switch. I bought Bourns pots, as they had the metric shafts I needed for the Gretsch-style knobs I added. The knobs are flatter and wider than what comes with the bass. PROS: -It looks really cool, and will likely get compliments from your bandmates. I love the gawdy chrome bridge and pickups, and the offset fret dots. -After a small setup, she was pretty ready to go, and fun to play. -It has a really unique throaty tone. It’s similar to a Jazz, but I feel either pickup can stand on its own, where I feel a Jazz requires some input from both pickups. (Just my opinion) -If you’re concerned about feeling like a fat guy in a little coat with this short scale, the bass is pretty much the same length as 34” Fender basses, so it has long scale proportions on a short scale. -The hardware and tuners seem decent, and look nice at this price point. -The cavity is pretty generous, so you can easily mod it with different pickups, and a new pickguard. -Because the pickups actually mount to the pickguard, wiring mods are really easy to do, and come out real clean. -The two pickups offer fun variations, and combined with the blend knobs added, I was able to open up more possibilities. -The pickup height adjustment is a snap, as the pickups are on springs, mounted to the pickguard. CONS: -For being a short scale bass, it’s on the heavy end, at 9.2lbs -The paint around the trus rod access can be easily chipped. -It comes with uninspiring round wound strings. I feel like this bass requires flats. -I liked the pickups, but hated the pots and selector switch. I feel like it hampered the bass’s tone capabilities. I switched all of that out. -The body is heavy, but really soft. When I did my mods, 5-6 pickguard mounting screws totally stripped out, requiring toothpick fixes. -This bass is not comfortable for slap. -It has a glossy neck. I’d prefer a satin neck, but I can live with it. Summary: The Rascal is a fun addition, if you already have a few basses. It’s versatile, great-looking, and unique. It’s not perfect, but for $400, you can’t beat it. I would suggest the pots mod, as it really opened up the bass’s potential, regardless, I am pleased with what I ended up with. Thanks!

I am a standard size guy who has played long and extra long scale for years but have recently fallen in love with shorties. I have traditionally played over the neck pickup, but here the bridge pickup feels natural. And this bridge pickup is hot, as evidenced by Bully's reaction. If you prefer flats as I do, beware there are very few proper choices out there, as this is a thru-body only bridge with a bit of distance before reaching the saddles. Fortunately, Labella offers a set for this application, 760-FMUS which of course fit, play and sound great. This is a LONG bass overall, probably as long as most extra long scales, so pick your gig bag carefully. I am not a fan of gloss, so I took 600-then-1200 grit sandpaper to the back of the neck and now it's smooth as satin. I've no doubt this bass is a neck-diver, but fortunately years back I purchased two of the Levy's contoured bass straps, which work wonders here especially. As for the comment on what the bass looks like without the pickguard, all controls and pickups are attached. This neck is Jazz bass width at the nut with I believe a C-profile, and the frets appear taller than standard. I absolutely love this instrument.

I've been a long time finger pick flatwounds bass player. I got into a need to flat pick round wound situation. The Rascal has excelled at that. The bridge sitting sooooo far away from the end of the bass creates great ergonomics for this, including easy palm muting at the bridge. I did restring with CME exclusive LaBella Chicago Style pure nickel strings Bass VI set, fit great, a little fatter tone and actually cheaper than 4 string bass sets

I've watched a few reviews on this bass and I've liked what I've heard from them. The tones you're getting from the bridge pup is one of the few bridge pup soloed tones I really like.

Adam Clayton has a Signature Jazz Bass in this colour. if you like green there is a Limited Edition Precision bass in the Players series called British Racing Green (a little different). Player series is being cleared out right now in preparation for it's replacement series.

I have this in that exact same color. I picked it up at the same time I did an Aerodyne P-Bass, and it's definitely fun to play. I haven't spent as much time on it as I'd like, but when it comes to bang for your buck, there's a lot to this one.

It is a bass that honestly shocked me with how well it played, definitely one to get your hands on if you can. Very sharp bass, tone is fantastic and felt pretty good especially for a squier.

I'm a guitar player, and that's why I chose shortscale bass - it was only available in black here in Hungary. I think it's a perfect instrument for beginners, relatively cheap and of very good quality, there's nothing to discourage you from practising, in fact it makes you want to. It's very comfortable, it's nice to play sitting down, which I think is important when practicing, and I like the weight, I like to move the instrument when I play, maybe it's stupid, I think it's easier to keep the rhythm with the heavier ones. What's not clear to me is what strings fit it, the through stringing and shortscale can confuse me.

I just ordered one of these!!! Special Finish!!! What I am observing about this bass is that the pickups have MASS OUTPUT!!! therefore a lighter touch seems to make it sound better! I don't know what amp you are using? I have a Fender 100w 12" combo! I also note that the sustain is really great! Cant wait to hear this with Flat Wound Strings!!

My main issue with this bass is the size - it does defeat the point of short scale a little. esp. with the Stingray looking bridge it does feel weird how much longer the bass goes on after it. otherwise i'd jump right on it.

I bought this bass 3 weeks ago. I like it but it’s ergonomically a little awkward to play. It’s also really heavy. The humbuckers on mine buzz pretty bad. It does look so cool and plays well. I’m not sure if I’ll keep it though. It doesn’t really fit in most cases either fyi

I got only room for maybe one more bass. Looking for a shorty that I can slap on, would be something for me with some flats. Besides the obvious, stingray I'm not a huge fan and Mustang, I would like a 30-32 inch P bass config with 21 frets. It's just better for chromatic scales, pentatonic, play everything. 34 is just big and heavy and I can't bend my strings like on my shorty. I like to get the vibrato, when I can but I am hard on my bass, cause my finger can hit pretty hard sometimes I just am aggressive. All the best players are, I think kind of aggressive on bass, it changes and becomes a new type of instrument not limited to usual bass lines, it gets faster and harder as you go on, so I don't know thinking about getting a carbon fiber neck, going from there. Saw a nice bridge, to match it in carbon fiber. Then I can throw some passive electronics in there, pickup and be done. Any cool body can work, single pickup config.
