Squeaking dryer repair for stackable Frigidaire or Kenmore dryer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to fix a squeaky dryer. This is the same fix for both kenmore and Frigidaire stackable dryers. A $20 fix vs paying an appliance repairman $200. It does take some work, but isn’t too bad of a fix. This eliminates the squealing dryer noise.
Here is the $20 part from Amazon:

My dryer makes squeaky noises so loud that I said enough is enough it must be fixed. Although I’m renting I mostly prefer doing easy repairs myself. I already took off some part as instructed in the video, had some lint vacuuming and waiting for my part to be delivered from Amazon. I live by myself so will try to do everything myself with no help. I’ll update once I get it done. Thanks for the video hopefully it works! Update: I’ve done it all mostly the same as instructed in the video, very helpful! The only thing I’ve done differently is taping some parts temporarily so I can do it by myself. I also took off the top to be able to put it back without struggling. I hope this video helps you! mines doesn’t make noise anymore 🥳

Thank you for posting this how to video. I tackled my squeaky dryer today. It took a couple hours, but I followed your instructions to the letter. I was amazed at how much lint was inside the dryer.

First off I would like to thank you, without you I wouldn’t have known how to fix this thing. Took me less than an hour to take it a part, but took me around 5 hours to put it back together. I didn’t have the extra man power so I had to macho man it and it was terrible, but through all the blood (yes blood, I cut myself on the metal in the back trying to put the new belt in) and sweat I got it accomplished. If I had to critique anything in the video I just wish you cut out the mistakes you made, Because I made them too lol. I would pause right before you switched it up and I learned the hard way. Perfect example when you tried to put the drum back in with the bearing still attached. Honestly maybe I should’ve just watched it all the way through instead of jumping ahead. Like I said I really appreciate you for making this video saved me a lot of money in the long run with this easy fix. Not all heroes wear capes, but some teach you how to fix a washer dryer combo. 🫡

Thank you so much for this! This has been an absolute lifesaver. Lol at 7:25 holy smokes I wish you had edited this out though! I paused the video and attached it, then pushed play again and unscrewed it again. But this video is a total lifesaver, and I and my family are really appreciative.

Bro!!! 2 thumbs WAY UP! Mine was squeeling so loud it was waking the dead. Took it apart tonight. Vacuumed out pounds of lint. I’ll let you know how the re-install goes. Thank you so much. *UPDATE* Easy fix with this gentleman’s instructions. I put the drum back exactly the same way after 30 minutes of hit and miss. To hold the tiny ball bearing in place, I just used a dab of the grease. The ONLY thing I did different was put the belt on immediately, not last in case it twisted. Great video on a repair that anyone can do. No need for a repairman. Save yourself $$$. My dryer is ultra quiet now. Again. Thank you.

I got a bunch of lint and stuff behind the vents on the back of the dryer drum. I took middle screws out of drum thinking it would come out and I could clean behind it but o boy I was wrong. Now I can't get the screws to line back up with the pully now I'm here lol

if you take off the entire top panel, you can take the drum out with the bearing together.

Omg just Watched this with a tiny little late night buzz. But my stack has been squealing a Little bit. Rather annoying and instead of hiring someone. I’m gonna fix it. Thank you. Good info. Gotta find. Second hand tho. Was thinking when putting belt on at end wonder if you lubed the belt a little would last even longer and help appt it to each disc ? Would think that was give it longevity. They used to say back in the day that u could soap your belt on your car if you’re t squealed. Wonder if that could extend it You take care of your washer dryer it will keep on working!!! .

It's not the belt that squeals, it's the metal to metal contact. Don't lube the belt.

you did this the very hard way... just say`n ... take the door off all the way. less weight really helps... now reach in to undo the belt to remove it. also when you [install ] it always spin the drum by hand to be sure it tracks correctly like 3 turns should center the belt. now up front you do not need to remove the 2 inter screws under the control panel, only the outer 2 on each side... but remove the drum is very easy remove the top front 4 screws in the front top and remove only the top 2 side middle screws to push up the top panel bend the panel up like 12 inchs and the drum will now have room to push it [up] out of the cradled which is the holder the bearing is in, it will now have room to lift up... believe me i have done many hundreds of these... but sometimes i cannot move the unit, because of the flooring do not want to scratch it. so i just remove the inter 3 center screws to just pull out the drum which you did not film this ... you can install it this way if you cannot lift up the top panel to lift up the back of the drum. now you can use a small screwdriver a phillips screwdriver to align the bolt hole pattern to start the screws to hold the rear bearing cover to the spin drum it will work very easy... and you do not need 2 people to do the bear holder ever when you change out the cradled with that plastic insert you grease up ... when installing it just only remove one of 2 screws and turn it up away and install back that same screw you just remove to hold the back tin holding plate to keep it from falling down because these 2 screws are the only thing holding that rear plate from falling down behind the dryer. so when you have the screw holding it now you can remove the other screw and install the new bearing cradle tighten it down a little and now remove the other screw and turn the new cradle to line up with the hole and install the 2nd screw and you done, i do this a lot you do not need 2 people ever...you really do not need that little BB bearing it is just for a grounding, i do install them with grease holding it on that works great. or you can use a strong magnet on the panel which my buddy uses a magnet to hold the little BB it works great, i just use grease..

From the back of the dryer check if the belt is still on. Mine snapped after several months. I’m guessing your belt broke or slipped off the belt.

Your video was very good! Very clear on everything to do. Sadly, the quality of the replacement part from the time that you did this has gone downhill. The white plastic part no longer holds the ball bearing back well. I put mine in, tightened it up and the ball bearing fell into the inside of the machine. I took it all back out, and I could push the bearing through the hole in the plastic with my thumb easily. So I'm thinking that new parts are not as good. Guess I'll try a different brand and eat this 1.

Thanks for the comment! That’s a bummer. The belt that we replaced ours with also broke recently and we had to replace it. Sad that the quality has gone so far down hill.

@RyanGuideToLife Upon examination, I discovered that the plate they sent, that keeps pressure on the ball bearing is much thicker than the original. I believe that forced that bullbearing through that plastic housing with all that extra force. I took the old plate, with the original ball bearing which seems to be slightly larger, and I put it back together. Not completely finished with it yet, but the drum spins freely! I will let you know when it is finished.

  • @1ModernDayDad

    @1ModernDayDad

    2 ай бұрын

Sorry that was confusing. So the drum should come out like I was trying to do. It pops up and out of the u shaped piece in the back. Since that didn’t work, I unscrewed it from the back and then the drum comes straight out. You still need to pop that piece up and out but now it’s a smaller piece to work with. If you keep watching. It should make sense.
