Enjoy your videos, first time I’ve seen this finisher one. I usually don’t write comments but after I watched this I had to write one. After hearing about the work you do for Mike on thanksgiving. My mother passed away 14 years ago on thanksgiving day literally dropped out of no where in my drive way. Every since I go to the gym the morning of thanksgiving and hit squats, and I finish with what I called Patti (moms name) I do 225 for 20 reps, then 135 for 20 then the bar for 20. This year I will try your finisher for Mike. Thank you for all the great content you provide to the lifting world.

The way he inspires you sounds very similar to the way you inspire me, not just in lifting, but in changing my outlook in life: being thankful for the chance to experience pain, to embrace the suck, to die empty. Just hope you know the work you do means a lot to a lot of people. Keep it up brother.

I’m totally down for the Mike Jenkins squat challenge! Squat day will fall on Black Friday for me so it’ll be perfect. I was getting my pic line put in to treat Burkitts Lymphoma just before you had yours taken out. I had 5 months off from lifting while my body had chemo to deal with. Simply doing the dishes had me feeling like I just did a heavy set of deadlifts. Now I’m back at the weights, building back up to where I was. Come Thanksgiving I’ll be nearly 3 months in remission. What better reason to take on the Mike Jenkins challenge than simply because I CAN!

The push-up challenge is done the same as the squat - holding in the down position. The pull up challenge is done holding in the hang position unless you are a superstud and can hold in the up position. The overhead press is done holding in the lockout position. It would be cool to see your crew or one of your classes trying one of the challenges in a video!

Here in germany we don´t celebrate Thanksgiving, but I checked and it is on november the 22nd this year. Right on my squat day, so no excuse to not do the finisher right? And also, will you make a q and a video for squats too? If yes, my question is: What do you do for rehab, if your lower back feels a little funny after a heavy squat day? Is it okay if you back gets a little beat up after squats (I´m doing high bar)?

Hey brain, I'm currently on doctors orders to not lift weights because of a wrist injury (or even just body weight stuff like push ups and pull ups). I know one of your pieces of advice is to do pull ups and weighted pull ups in place of curls. I've never really like curls so once I'm cleared to return I'll definitely give it a try. Only downside is, before I injured my wrist I was unable to do a pull up and I'm doubting my ability to do one when I get back, so how can you work your way up to doing a pull up and eventually weighted pull ups?

Long story short, you can do reverse lunges or split squats even for one rep maxes and your knees will feel just fine

The push up challenge is done the same as the squat. You stay in the down position of the push-up until it says up. You may also want to try it with pull ups where you hang in the down position. I do it with overhead press by just reversing the order. When it says up you bring the bar down. When it says down you push the bar up and hold it in the lockout position until it says up again. You can also reverse the order on pull-ups so that you are “hanging” in the up position. Possible future video?

Hey Brian, question for what I imagine will be a soon-to-be-created video on squat questions: any advice for engaging the posterior chain more? As a quaddy squatter I'm probably leaving weight out there. Related, any advice for improving depth? Thanks!

Brian, I’ve heard you talk about your close friend, Mike, who inspired you to try strongman. I didn’t realize that Mike’s wife, Keri, is the same Keri married to Brian Shaw. I assume you knew her long before you met Brian, yeah? I’ve loved your collaborations with him, and it just now dawned on me that she was previously married to your late friend, Mike

I have tendonitis in my right knee which bothers me alot while squatting. Are there any exercises that can help? I know my legs are uneven strength wise, so maybe this is playing a big part?

Note: I am not a doctor. I also have knee problems (possibly tendonitis, possibly i tore something; never went to a doctor) and squats bothered me for a long time. I started with leg extensions. Literally the lightest weight on the machine hurt at first. I did 4 sets of 25 at the end of every workout. Once that felt all right, i went to the second weight in the stack. It was a slow build up but eventually that strengthened my leg to the point i could start squatting again. I also did a lot of leg press and lunges during that time. If you don't know how to low bar squat I would look into it as well. That did wonders for relieving the stress on my knees. Also, standing hip extensions with a band seemed to help build some much needed knee stability. Good luck mate.

Unfortunately no because of the clean man. You can go with a neutral grip with a Swiss bar or trap bar but the clean is the main issue man
