    Two very respectful players, a crowd that encourages the two players without booing, it's really nice to see.

    What a difference against the recently published 1997 Khan vs Power match! Real and very enjoyable squash instead of arguing with the referee all the time! And enough video resolution to see the ball :)

    Berthil van Beek It’s more so the video resolution. Neither of these two guys would tie Jansher’s bootlaces.

    @@1967briano not so sure. Paul Coll on his day has shown to foot it with the best. The game has moved on with another level of pace, endurance and accuracy. Hard to compare different eras too. Jansher did want he needed to do to be no1 then but would that level have been enough against today top 5? I found the game against Power boring.

    Ross Stokes Respectfully, lowering of the tin was a factor and the rallies are more intense but short lived. Peter Nicol is a similar player to Paul Coll. Ali Farag appears to be a nice guy but he’s loose. Throws in easy high boasts sometimes too high from the back. Shabana,Nicol, Willstrop and Matthew nearly traverse both periods in time. Nicol and Shabana both agree that Jansher is the best. Coll has improved in the last 18 months particularly at the front. He’s not as loose. But Jansher would murder these players at his best. His record is unbelievable. Lowering the tin. Better diet. Fitness are factors. Lowering the tin is the biggest factor. It makes it easier to put the ball away. I’ll take Nicol’s word on it 😊👍

    @@1967briano I agree with brian. Coll may yet improve but the reason he's in the top 5 now is more of his athleticism, strength and stamina rather than skill and finesse. Im not taking anything away from him as these are important attributes in today's game but in terms of skill and gameplay i dont reckon he's top 5. Unfortunately in today's pool of players apart from elshorbagy the other players have not shown the same kind of consistency as jansher or nicol or the generation i would call the 2010's - matthew, gaultier, shabana, wilstrop, and last but not least of course, ashour. These five players i believe at their peak could go toe to toe with the best players of any era, if not better. All of them were serial winners and world no. 1 and each of them have that "x-factor" that makes them stand out from the rest. Its a pity they were born in the same era and competed with each other, otherwise they would've each gotten a bigger trophy haul. In today's pool, apart for elshorbagy, I dont see any of the other players being able to compete with Jansher or any of the greats mentioned. Gawad is too wildly inconsistent and like brian said farag is loose sometimes. Momen, rosner, coll are all decent players but not good enough for the no.1 spot in my opinion. There are actually some good younger players with potential like elias and dessouky but they dont seem to have the mental strength. Its no wonder elshorbagy is tearing up the psa rankings for the past 5 years as that previous golden generation have begun to get older/retired/injured. Honestly its not as exciting these days

    Zi Yao Very good analysis/assessment. Momen, Rösner, Coll all fine players but not World No 1. Momen won a world title but all those players just mentioned would be the equivalent of Dittmar, Rodney Martin and maybe Chris Robertson. Martin was World champion in 1991 but Jansher’s head to head with all those players was really high ratio. Jansher did the same with Nicol, Power. He used murder Simon Parke. Some of them could never get near him. Even the top 5 ranked players. He just knew them to well and dealt with what they could throw at him with ease. Eg Zarak Jahan khan. Gawad and Elias are very talented but not at Jansher’s consistency. Willstrop, Gaultier, Shabana , Matthew, elsorbagy all really good players but not at Jansher’s level. He was more consistent and at his very very best almost untouchable. Ivan Lendl once said “it’s not how good you are at your best; it’s how good you are at your worst”. Michael Phelps said something similar, it’s the ability to perform when you’re tired, mentally not willing and reluctant to suffer that marks greatness. Phelps at one stage didn’t miss a training session in 5 years !!

    @@larrygallagher6525 It's a type of shot that is hit hard and high into the front wall close the side joint. It goes then into the side wall and becomes a quick-flying cross-court lob with the ball spinning sideways. Castagnet was in a natural position to play it, but chose not to.

  • @schmuuck8

    @schmuuck8

    @@larrygallagher6525 Yep, the corkscrew is hard shot that takes spin off the front wall / side wall change of direction and spirals to the back of the court. If it catches the back sidewall with spins it comes out parallel to the backwall. If it's deep enough it'll be unplayable. It's hit very steeply upwards, so that high boast from Coll set it up perfectly for Castagnet. It is more of an exhibition shot though, so no surprise he didn't play it.
