Squash analysis - Forehand elbow training movement

Спорт

This is amazing to build the range of movement required to hit quality forehand drives with power and control.
I developed this after many years of coaching and it has been the solution to fixing a common problem many players face activating their elbow movement through the swing.
It works for everyone - enjoy

Well done Garry. I figured out myself how critical the elbow is, but the only coaches I have observed who emphasise the cocking of the elbow are Jethro Binns and you. If you think about throwing a ball you might first cock your wrist but the most important element is to cock the elbow and release the forearm. This applies equally to the backhand

Thanks, It was a huge problem with juniors and I went through many experiments before I came up with this and it has such a quick impact and is so simple requiring no aids. It is one of those things that just works and the more you do it when you are at the development stage the quicker you will gain the flexibility and range of movement. Thanks for your feedback.

As a coach I had this problem often with players, after much trial and error this worked instantly for many and a little constant work for others and they never looked back.

Very good video. I really like that Garry focuses on algorithms that can be done to train people to have proper technique. Without algorithms it can be quite tedious for the mentor and the mentee. The only additional comment I would add is that if the student doesnt' have the correct "open grip", and they try this drill, they will be met with disaster. So they first must master the open grip (i.e. avoid the flat part of the racket against the palm, instead twist the racket to be open). I can't thank Simon Taylor enough (@UoLSquash Head Coach) for fixing my grip in my youth!

Thanks for the positive comments. Yes the grip is critical and will affect all shot outcomes. If you think this is good wait till you see the videos I have coming up, they are ground breaking and highly beneficial. Thanks for watching and liking the videos.
