I remember going to the mall when just completed in the 70s. It was actually a square shape with Woolco, the Bay, Sears and Dominion at the corners at one point. The floor was a brown tile all around. Had a nice open to the outside air court in the centre and you could skate there. Surrounded by farm fields, some woods and the odd house. It was close to my home on Cawthra and Burnhamthorpe. Fun place to go shopping and catch a movie... My dad would still go for a daily walk in the mall pre-pandemic...

Easy to tell you haven't been there for a while!! I have been working there for 6 years, and it has changed so much in that short time! The movie theatres closed probably at least 10 years ago. A lot of stores relocated during the last major reno in the mall. The food court is bigger than it used to be! As for the doors to Walmart on the lower level, they were closed at the beginning of the pandemic, and have never re-opened. I haven't actually walked the mall in a while. Nice to see what it looks like now. It is still changing!! Thanks for the walk!

I remember where Missiassauga Square One was was a no man's land around the mid 1980's.The development came very fast and out of everybody's expection at that time and set the record of the fastest growing city in North America.

they really did a good job at making sq1 an upscale mall. in the 90s it was really dark and drab. i think that upgrade in the early 2000s where they added the apple store and h&m really changed tge feel

This was indeed a awesome true holiday style xmas 🎄 eve livestream walk through Square One mall in Mississauga..I haven't been there since Oct.2020 but the ppl in that area for sure are blessed and thankful that it's reason why Mississaugas downtown is booming, and highly benefitted them wy it is well-known in 🇨🇦 and the 6th largest city in Canada I believe right? OK thanks

Very cool video! On the lower level where the Food District is, it use to be HMV. I worked there back in High School in the mid 90s! Wow, Square One has changed a lot! and at 26:39 no, Mississauga is not apart of Toronto. Toronto tried persuading Mississauga to join Toronto when Etobicoke agreed with the amalgamation and became the "MegaCity" in 1998. But Hazel McCallion say NO WAY! lol

Respect. Going into a mall on Christmas Eve. This was opened on October 5, 1973 by 20th Century Theatres. It was taken over by Famous Players in 1980 and closed in 1997 when the nearby Coliseum opened. It had four screens with 1,425 seats in all.

Holy hell I worked at New York Fries too !!!!! To the left was the Yogurt shop when yogurt was just starting to become a "thing". That was early 90's. I remember the owner scolding me because I was jamming too many fries into the box ... had to "sift" them in so that it "looked" full. To the right of New York Fries was Orange Julius if I remember correctly. Oh man, you just took me to a flashback that opened up a whole lot of memories I had forgotten about. Wow.

@@JohnnyStrides Oh that's right , it was a tiny KFC place next door, then Orange Julius. It was Bill, yes - damn good memory you have. I was sad to hear you say the movie theaters had disappeared. The last movie I saw at Square One was Beverly Hills Cop lol , and across the street there on Burnhamthorpe there was that new Cineplex - I believe Forest Gump was the last movie I saw there. I"m living in Bangkok now, for oh about 20 years, so finding your walks around Toronto makes me tear up. Thank you. Oh and did I hear you say you hit 60,000 steps on one of those walks? Wow.

I wish that I could've worked at those stores when I was younger, but the system failed me so much that I've never really worked except at one warehouse job from June to December of 1989, a job at a sheltered workshop in 1994 and 1995, and have been on social assistance for most of my life otherwise. I envy anybody who had ever gotten to work at a job in a mall as a youth, especially at a place like HMV, Sam The Record Man, or New York Fries.

I used to come to Square One to play video games at Playdium/Sega City and then go and see movies at the Colosseum 10, and then I'd head back to Toronto afterwards; later on, after the Toronto Playdium opened up along with the Paramount Theater (now the Scotiabank Theater) at the corner of John & Richmond, I stopped going there to play video games and just watched movies and played video games in Toronto until Playdium and most (hell, _all_ ) of the nightclubs closed down because of the death of the Entertainment District due to condogentrification.
