I have a Sage5 LW and my new Native5 LW just arrived today. Now I get to compare them for my EDC. You ( and others ) convinced me that I had to have a Native5 LW. I’m liking it so far.

Thank you so much for being the ONLY person I’ve come across that truly understands the differences between these two knifes. I felt like you gave a great summary of all the points I was curious about.

I agree with all your opinions here: Compression lock is just a more enjoyable locking mechanism than back locks, it makes the knife much easier and quicker to deploy single handedly. And I do prefer the Sage to the para: better construction (Taiwanese spydies generally are), pivot bushings keep everything smooth and centered, and you can really feel the difference of the sages thinner blade when slicing. For all the above reasons, to me, the Sage 5 is just the best and easiest to recommend midsized spydie and it’s aesthetics are more mainstream and appealing to people who generally dislike the look of Spydercos.

The sage 5 seems to be available in fewer steels (Only S30V and M4 that I have seen) than than the native 5, and is about $40 more. It’s easier to try a native 5, in a sick steel like rex 45

My sage is a linerlock. I love it, and the reason is that my native 5 is a back lock, and my para 3 is a compression lock. I love having the variety in the locks, and it also keeps me from buying the same spydercos with the different types of locks. Have a good rest of your day and go use your shit.

What i love about this hobby is that i never stop learning and i believe that my linerlock is a sage 1 not a 5 . Have a wonderful rest of your day and go use your shit.

I don't know why, but the only Taichung knife that has stuck with me is the Spydiechef. Maybe it's the lack of Rex 45 or K390 that keeps Seki and Golden knives in my pockets.

What about blade thickness? The locks are fairly irrelevant to me. The reason people want these compared is because their blades are very similar, not the locks.
