That is probably the gnarliest production folder I've ever seen after the nail and now this. I can see why it's your fave. I wouldn't have to worry about bumping a staple anymore. Lol

I can’t believe Spyderco doesn’t use it on more knives. I love that stuff, and the police is a good knife, but I can’t always use such a large knife. I wish I had gotten one of those Urban’s when they were around.

It's pretty complicated. Harder steel is technically not tougher but what we want is Performance at the edge so the boost in strength is very important if the material has the stability and capacity to go harder. More alloy and higher Hardness is bad for Shock resistance/impact toughness but I'm not swinging a folder like an axe.

It was this video and the other one you did about M4 that made me buy one of each. I love M4 but found K390 to stay crispy longer. But there is still something about M4 I just keep coming back to. Not sure why, but I like the feel of it cutting through stuff. You now also have me seriously thinking about 4V. Thanks!!! Like I need another knife.!!!

With M4 out of my list do you have any experience on how would M390 / 204P perform with same tip smacking & brass chomping test? :)

He man, Watching your videos for some time now, Is k390 still your favourite steel? I'm a car mechanic and use my knives for light prying in plastic( opening dashboard parts) . Opening a lot of boxes, and cutting small diameters copper wire/ cables( wire loom). I don't care for stainless steel. And to be honest k390 seems like to be what I'm looking for right?

How does K390 sharpen? I've heard it has a stubborn bur, similar to S110V or 10V. When I had a knife in S110V, I remember spending more time trying to fully remove the bur than I did actually sharpening it. Is K390 similar in that regard?

  • @FearNoSteel

Soon I'm gonna order a P4 for EDC and a Maxamet Manix LW for massive amounts of cardboard cutting. Then I'm gonna file for bankruptcy, because I've bought too many blades this year. Can't wait to try K390 for sure. You've been talking it up and making it impossible to avoid buying. I trust your input, because the steels that I have experience with, that you've described, match my own results.... unlike some other people, claiming to be experts, with zero understanding of the steel's actual performance and no idea how to properly sharpen those steels.

jesus, Spyderco making Enduras and Endelas with K390 in mass production amounts and they have enough balls to heat treat it 65-66 hrc and it god exceptional toughness. I mean, what else do you want? Okay there's a 1 downside tho, it can't be shiny and reflective all the time, as soon as you open the box it'll start getting some patina. But I think is a fair price to pay for this ultimate steel.
