Sprinter Van Conversion DIY Headliner Upholstery

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Sprinter Adventure Van Build Series Episode 13: In this installment of the Sprinter #VanLife Build series we are upholstering our factory headliner in Duramax Marathon Tweed fabric to better match our interior scheme. This project jumped ahead a bit in the queue because we were tired of driving the van without the sun visors. This project was probably the least enjoyable one on the van so far, but dang does it look good!

I've watched all your videos and enjoyed and appreciate how clean your work is. I like the fact that everything is in it's place such as your wiring. I've watched other videos where the wiring is just shoved behind the insulation...... no bueno. Also, you guys are informative and a little crazy, love it...... 🤪

Hey John, love the username 🤣and thanks a bunch for taking the time to write this to us. We really appreciate it and glad you've noticed that aspect of this build. We like tidy and purposeful wiring! You always gotta have a little fun with it too, otherwise it becomes too boring! Thanks again!

Did you use toast or oatmeal for the headliner? Also do you have to remove the old fabric? Or can you go over the old? Looks good!

This is actually “Grey Mix” I thought about going over the headliner if I ever would do it again it would be a little tricky where it slides into the plastic trim pieces over the windows it’s a pretty tight fit there. Also I would for sure use DAP Weldwood Spray Grade Landau Top & Trim or something stronger than 3M 90 if I were to try to do it that way. I just went with what @Vanspeed recommended. They weren’t that helpful TBH.

@@moonrakerdesign great color! Ya I haven’t had luck with the 3m stuff in the past. I’ll have to try something else when I do my headliner. Thanks for the video and the great tips!

@@moonrakerdesign Thanks for the videos, lots of good information. Any thoughts on just cutting away the factory headliner material where there would be overlap with the new material?

@@70mmdp I"m not sure I'm quite following what you mean here. Can you try rephrasing the question a bit? Are you just talking about the edges where you'd need to fold over?

@@moonrakerdesign I think you mentioned that putting a layer of cloth over the existing headliner could make it a tight fit in places. My idea was to only remove the existing headliner in the places where there might be a fit issue with the double thickness (factory material + new material combined thickness) especially where the headliner slips behind the other trim pieces. I really don't want to remove all the factory headliner material as it seemed to be a real pain in your video. I may be over thinking...
