Sprinter RV Water Tank Vent Problems

Спорт

The fresh water tank on my Sprinter RV allowed water to slosh out while we were going down the road. I fixed it by installing a check valve. This RV is on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis. It is very similar to the Fleetwood Pluse, the Winnebago View and the Itasca Navion

Found an issue with my vent hose today and thank you for your video! It didn't address my issue particularly, but answered some questions regarding needing the vent hose for air release vs. it being used as an overflow for water. Great attachment idea with the 90 degree angle and smaller tube attachment which allows the air to escape while filling the fresh water tank.

I had the same problem on my boat and install a check valve as well. I had to reinstall by taking it from the tank end and installing it at the outlet end. The water when full was not let air in due to the water holding valve closed until the water level in the tank was lower then the air outlet. This caused my tank to leak due to pressure caused from the pump taking in water without air. That's for sharing keep the videos cominh.

buzzsah I will keep an eye on mine. I noticed when the tank was topped off there was water against the check valve.

simple but effective solution mate - I like it! Over here we tend to call hose clips jubilee clips!

great idea, and you're very handy with those hoses...I have a problem not being able to fill my tank because the water immediately flows back out..the tank is empty (per the gauge on the wall, and air coming out when the pump is on and sink valve is open) I have a filler hose I bought at camping world, but the same thing happens...any ideas ?

Wouldnt this make it so you cant fill up your tank when empty? Because the air cant vent out?

I was thinking the same thing. Air has to go both ways.

The hose used to fill the tank is much smaller than the fill port. There is plenty of room for air to escape. However, to get the tank to fill to the top I made a long fill hose that snakes all the way through the fill neck into the tank otherwise I could only fill the tank to the point where the water in the tank covers the fill neck,

I think he had created a new problem. There is no allowance in his system to account for thermal expansion of the water.

I installed this check valve about 5 years ago and it still works very well. The check valve only works for rapid pressure changes such as that caused by sloshing.

Would adding a longer vent hose and putting a hump in it have worked?

How do you account for expansion when the RV sits in the sun? How does that air vent?

Good point, the expansion of air in the tank should be slow enough that the check valve is not activated and the tank can handle a slight pressure.

Where did you find the air check valve? I have a 2018 Forester 2431S with the same problem.

Don't you need it to let air out when you fill?

The filler port acts as a filler port as well as a breather pipe due to filler pipe being a far larger diameter than the hose thats filling it. Ie. Connected to water source. More accurately, there is not enough water entering the tank to cause pressure as there is a larger volume of air escaping from the filler than water entering the filler)

The problem is the sprinters are junk! Everytime some poor bastard would buy one I would laugh inside and think just because someone has $90k doesn't make them very smart. I have done delivery and walk through on over 500 RV's and these things are junk sorry to say. Every customer thought they were going to get 20 mpg. They would come in for service and complain.

Titanlessmatt As a mechanic I think the Sprinter Chassis is pretty good. I am only getting 14mpg. When I complained to other gas powered RV owners they thought 14mpg was a lot better than the 6 to 9 mpg they were getting.
