    @@hstetser5376 I stand corrected, doing a Google search frame slide and barrel made in Turkey then internals assembled here. Well that takes it out of running for me. If I wanted a Hi Power from Turkey there are others at a lower price point. I'd maybe consider the FN but ill its "improvements" ruined the look compared to the classic HP. Plus it won't take HP mags, sure higher capacity is nice but so is being able to buy/ use Classic mags since they have been around for 85 yrs.

    Wow, what a great deal! I can buy a SA-35 on GB for 3x MSRP, and then buy a real Hi-Power for a lot more money than that, then take all the parts out of the real gun and put them in my SA-35 (after applying a Dremel to the extractor channel, of course), and I'll have an SA-35 that actually works right once I get it refinished. Amazing. Seriously, though, I hope nobody is buying this stock and carrying it for self defense. I was excited to see a reasonably priced Hi-Power come out, and I really wanted one. It's a shame - it seems like Springfield would have put several thousand rounds through at lease a couple of these to check reliability, but apparently they didn't.

    They actually did but I'd bet that they sent those out for coating. The production ones are being done in house and the process is adding too much. I shot the example ones they were passing around. They were nice but they had a lot of finish damage so I bet it was thin to begin with.

    The slide serrations impeding the extractor and the spring bulging to the point where it is not functional will be frustrating. It appears this firearm was rushed to market with issues that will be problematic for function and reliability? Is the one you’re working with a prototype or a real early production? I don’t think a guy should need to get the Dremel out for surgery to remove metal on a brand new firearm. 🤦🏻‍♂️ you do a nice job on these videos. I really appreciate it. Thank you👍🏻

    The one that I just purchased a few weeks ago (Sept 2023) doesn't seem to have the issue with the sloppy extractor channel. I don't have a build date available, but I know these aren't sitting on the shelf for long.

    I wonder if the cutter was worn or of spec when the slide serrations were cut or the extractor channel. I could see how these cuts could be made in a CNC mill and it is possible the person who did the assembly had several extractors to try before finding one that fit. I know companies try not to get into hand fitting firearms because it drives up cost. Part of the reason a lot of older designs are out of production is because they required some hand fitting. S&W started using MIM hammers and triggers on 3rd gen pistols because they required less hand fitting than forged parts.

    I found this video posted on the Bullseye Forum. I've always thought about having a Browning Hi-Power, and the SA-35 seems like an excellent start, but having watched the video, I suspect I should wait a while until the issues are corrected, and the price drops down to where it should be. From reading the comments down below, you apparently have a shop - I did a search on the internet, but never found the right place. Maybe once I watch a few more of your videos, I'll figure this out.

  • @PhuVet
    @PhuVet2 жыл бұрын

    I'm willing to bet that browning set their tolerances with blued slides, which reduces all surfaces (deductive process) SA is using cerakote or a like coating (additive process) this causes everything to fit tighter. S&W had that issue in the 90s when they went from the 5900 series to the 910. They do need to deburr the entire extractor recess. I'd say a 17° bevel. You can bevel the extractor instead, it will turn into a self cleaning channel. Btw, nice slide bite you have there on your right hand, can tell you shoot a high power.

    Mark, in the visual comparison at 22:25 the length of the extractors from claw to pivot point is visibly different. Perhaps that also has an influence on the function. Curiously the FN Browning extractor (left) is longer in this dimension, which should mean a looser hold - conversely the Springfield (right) is shorter - perhaps too short? Just an observation. All the best, Rob

    Not sure if I see the point in continuing to test the SA 35 when nothing except the frame is Springfield, any longer. I appreciate all you've discovered with this new gun, but you're no longer testing a Springfield Armory product. Any chance of going back to a basic Springfield SA 35 and running a couple of thousand rounds through the basic gun?

  • @stevepalincsar4273

    @stevepalincsar4273

    They did say right at the beginning that a purpose of the test was to determine the suitability of the SA35 as the base platform for their custom guns; the other main purpose was to determine if their custom parts -- springs, etc. -- could be used in the SA35. It never was intended to be a Consumer Reports style evaluation of a stock pistol.

  • @PPISAFETY

    @PPISAFETY

    I tend to agree. I lost interest after this point as well. But Steve Palincsar in his reply does have a point, it was not the intention of BH Spring Solutions to really evaluate the SA-35 as a complete pistol, but rather as a starting point for their custom guns. Still, it would have been nice to see a bit more of a shooting test on a stock gun. But their earlier videos did provide some useful information from an engineering perspective before they started swapping out parts. For what it is worth, unless about two dozen or so other reviewers I've seen so far are all lying, I think the SA-35 will be a pretty solid pistol for the people who will actually buy it, and I think its internals are just fine. I think most of us who will get the SA-35 are buying an affordable trip down memory lane to the days when the Hi Power was a cutting-edge defense tool. Owners will probably not be putting huge numbers of rounds through these, any more than most owners of new 1911's (which are viturally all clones now) put huge numbers of rounds through those pistols. And to be honest, I think that the extractor channel issue is probably just a bad sample. If it is a more widespread issue, I'm sure we will all hear about it soon enough. That's why I'm waiting a bit to get my SA-35. I learned a long time ago never to buy the first of anything, or the last of anything.

    Haha, that thought had crossed my mind as well, having owned a half-dozen of the actual Brownings over the years and an almost equal number of CZ-75 variants. But in all fairness, the designers of the CZ-75 had 40 years to see what needed to be improved over the BHP. Still, when you look at the probable "street price" of the SA-35 once demand settles down, it is awfully close to the price of a good CZ-75. Tough choice. Practicality favors the CZ I think.
