It would be fun to have Jayna pick out a capsule wardrobe for Megan and vice-versa. Try it for a couple of weeks and see how you did for each other. Fun spring episode. I did no cleaning as I listened. I spring clean at my own pace and couldn't be more thankful for the tidy little rancher we downsized to. I make monthly goals and add them to my weekly planner. Yesterday, I had time to clean out and organize a closet in my targeted space. Works better for me and my schedule.

The calendar did use to start in march - the Romans added january and february and renamed a few months (july after julius caesar, august after augustus), which is why october has the prefix for 8th.

I’d have to say that wiping down items with a damp cloth, price everything so there’s no confusion, also I use jewelry tags that have the string and loop them over the top of the hanger. That way the price tag stays on the hanger. Gosh I could keep going lol

I'm in central Oklahoma & the thrift stores are getting expensive here, too. Inflation has impacted even thrift stores, however, I feel that the resalers who are posting on social media how much they profit from flipping thrift store finds are ruining thrifting for those of us who need to thrift to save money. The thrift stores seem to think they've underpriced stuff since the flippers are making so much money. I'm a single mom trying to clothe two teen daughters, so I do still thrift, but I'm more picky on what I buy. And we shop at TJ Maxx, Ross & even Wal-Mart to supplement what we can't thrift. The girls end up only wearing a few of their favorite outfits anyway. Thanks for another great podcast! God bless!!!

It's so refreshing especially as kids grow; today I put a desk under my son's loft bed for his art supplies and finally got the art drawers out of the kitchen! He's loving it and so am I! Also, graphic tees are a thing for me!! I love ones with a good message!

I love these stories about "surgery" and "nesting way too early" and such. We used to only have used furniture for the longest time in our home (or hand-me-downs from family members). I don't think Jayna is as much of a maximilist as she says she is (since most don't get rid of anything ever). I love your conversations so much by the way. Also, now I want to mop my kitchen floor. It needs it, and I love cleaning, but mopping is probably the chore I struggle most with! I love cleaning constantly, so the feeling of decluttering never passes for me haha. I enjoyed the "conspiracy" mentioned. Kinda makes sense in a way. Hope you are able to accomplish the things you want to do.

I worked full time outside the home while raising my 2 sons and never had time to go to garage sales or thrift stores. I just watched for sales and bought inexpensive clothes for boys. I don't like the thought of putting something on that someone else wore and yes the prices at thrift stores are so expensive!! I am from the middle of Nebraska and 10 days ago we got 18 inches of snow so I am very excited for spring and all that comes with it!! As always thank you for sharing your conversation. Loved listening to you ladies while I made supper tonight! You mentioned thrift stores - there's a Community Aid near me and I've gotten a lot of very nice baby clothes and toddler clothes for SUPPER cheap over the years. The prices are already nice and then i try to go on the discount days during the week (Monday because I'm a health care worker or Wednesday which is family day) which then saves me even more money. I haven't been to any other Community Aid other than the Selinsgrove one, so I can't vouch for what the others are like, but I've found some wonderful and useful things there. Plus I'm pretty sure they actually wash any clothes that come there because all the clothes smell like Gain detergent (obviously I still wash them when they get home).

This makes total sense as you said in the video, everything in the earth is just "coming back to life" --a fresh start. January first being in the dead of winter for the beginning of the year doesn't make sense at all. Lovely convo as usual ladies.

I'm still finding it worth my while to thrift! I enjoy it😊 At the local thrift store where I shop and volunteer at, most all children's clothes and shoes are $1; adult clothing and shoes are $2. Then, a certain tag is 1/2 price once per month and they have a $5 sack sale towards the end of the month. I know I'm extremely fortunate! We are selective in what we put out on the floor. The rejects go to...Guess where?! Goodwill!! Supposedly Goodwill recycles clothes and other items? (Our nearest Goodwill is 1 1/2 hour's drive away. Goodwill's prices are too high for me. Plus, the place is rather dirty, imo.) Also, around a 40 minute drive from me are a number of consignment shops. I can't forget to mention that I live where it isn't as heavily populated as Lancaster County, PA!

Guess what! You can put it in the fridge even if it sat out overnight! I use my starter once a week so definitely not a sourdough snob here either. Jayna, I just keep my sourdough on the counter and feed it every one or two days. I use the discard every like four or five days to make pizza dough. I use about one cup of discard, 2 cups of flour, a teaspoon of salt, half a teaspoon of sugar, a tablespoon of olive oil, and a teaspoon of yeast bloomed in a half cup of hot water. I just knead it all together and let it sit on the counter for an hour or two. I still use the yeast because the sourdough discard isn’t fed, but you probably could get away without using the yeast since it’s just pizza dough you don’t need to rise very much. I just keep a jar of yeast in my fridge anyway so it’s easy. But the discard still gives it a nice chewy mildly sour flavor. it’s a hit with my family and I make it like I said about once a week or slightly more often! Easy dinner too

I hate thrifting too, I dont have the patience to look thru every single item and most of our local thrift shops are just trash. Yeah I can get something at Walmart for a couple dollars more and its brand new and the size and color I want!

I always clean dirty walls as I notice them, dirty knobs and handles, and the floor. I never clean my bedroom! But it's not because I don't want to- is it because it is also his office so every time I'm free to clean it, he's working!

My husband was just telling me about the calendar conspiracy. But you’re combining two ideas. October (8), November (9), December (10) isn’t a conspiracy. There used to be only 10 months. But July and August were added for Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus. The conspiracy is that during the Middle Ages, there’s about 200 years of history missing that wasn’t recorded, so really the year now should be 2224. Who knows, but it’s fun to think about!

I just had our 4th baby February 10th and I’ve always went thrifting to find some “in between” clothes that i feel good in while I’m losing the weight & this time it was actually cheaper to do shein/Walmart/Poshmark etc because goodwill & similar places cost a couple dollars less than just buying full priced items- i was shocked! I was also sad for people who are less fortunate than us because i don’t know where they would be able to go to get clothes!

Definitely not just a Lancaster county thing for the Thrifting problems. I live in Oregon on the other side of the states. So Thrifting and even garage sales, it’s just as bad here! There’s one thrift store around us that I know people used to love going to but the prices are ridiculous! My mom started selling online because she lost her job a year ago and hasn’t been able to get one even though she’s applied to millions. So this is like the only way she can get income. She talks about how rude these other sellers are she’ll go to like a estate sale and someone will literally push her out of the way to grab stuff that she’s literally looking at right in front of her on a table. And when she went and she noticed there was two salt shakers. One was four dollars that was cracked and the other was $13 when she went up to the front to ask about it they pulled up some app they were using. Realize that they are basing it off of online prices Kind of like eBay sellers, etc. She was pretty frustrated because it’s called a thrift store. And it’s not very thrifty anymore. They even had some stuff that you could buy brand new for the same price like a couple dollars more. I’m flabbergasted at how people are these days. Thrifting is no longer a fun Adventure!

I became a minimalist about 3 years ago. I love a capsule wardrobe. I also love quality pieces but on a ministry budget I love thrifting what I can. It's hit or miss in thrift stores. Goodwill is awful now. They sell the good stuff on ebay now. But we have a Humane Society thrift store that's great. I recently got $100 jeans for $6 for example. But young boys pants... that's a no go for thrifting. They get holes in the knees way too quickly.

I’m only a few minutes in but what I hate to clean and neglect far too long always is under the appliances. Especially the refrigerator. And it is honestly so nasty and should be cleaned more frequently but alas, I just don’t do it. And to be even more honest, I dislike cleaning the filter on my washing machine also.🤢 It is disgusting and I don’t do it as often you are supposed to at all!

Must be your area on the thrift finds are not a bargain. Even in clothes my husband paid $3.00 each for nearly new Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and JCrew long sleeve shirts. He must have scored 18 shirts. We have found some awesome serving pieces, antiques and furniture items in thrift stores, estate sales, and Goodwill. I was on a girl’s trip in Colorado and found some great bargains up there. Also, Facebook Marketplace has been a top furniture score for us also.

Share and swap parties for neighborhoods and communities should be something everyone tries this year. So many families are struggling paycheck to paycheck clothes, household linens, furniture are difficult to buy . Lets stop funding greedy corporations like Goodwill. Have you seen their new prices? 7$ for a dress , 6$ for a ratty old shirt. Lets bring back Garage sells everything for a 1$ or .50¢ . A struggling family doesn't care that the towels arent the exact shade of beige to be in style. They just need towels.

Housecleaning was a necessity back when I was growing up . We lived on a farm and heated the house with wood , so yes the house was turned upside down from attic to cellar, I think fall was done more throughly because of fly dirt and often a busy summer of scratching food in for the winter .
