Hey Mark, that brown buildup is probably bacterial biofilm or iron deposits. It could affect the shrimp's health, so it might be a good idea to give it a scrub sometimes. Great videos bud 😊

Love the new informal videos. Have to tried putting a house plant in your tape water tank? There might be just enough nutrients in it to keep algae alive.

Yes, if making any water changes when I get water in my mouth, I spit it out. I keep in mind that the water in my tank is usually cleaner than any natural water source. Sure it could be drunk but it's also full of waste, I know swimming in the outdoors the water is worse, so if I was thirsty, I might swallow, but in a emergency, that would be drinking reserves.

Yeah the only downside, some of my most successful tanks have been with this type of setup, its good to have a back up sponge in the tank.

@@MarksShrimpTanks Yeah, I still keep the active soil in the UGF box for easy changing of soil with just a little soil on the bottom of the tank but use the sponge filter.

Stop sucking syphon it's rank AF. I fill my hose at sink with clean water. Cap ends with thumbs or kink it trapping water. Plop one end in tank, the other to drain. Wholla! No more syphon roulette. Can submerge hose in tank instead of sink if short hose too. Ps MarksBarebottomtanks may gain search yield though lol

Between 6-8 gh, dont bother about reading gh/tds/cinductivity in the tank it doesnt mean so much.
