Spring Loaded Crush Gate Mod || Heavy Steel Post Straightening

In this video we are sorting some jobs that are overdue on the farm, from Straightening a heavy steel gate post to keep a cattle crush gate open. We also start clearing falling trees from the winter storms

Hi Adrian, great episode as always. Regarding Ivy. You'd only need to sever it from the base with a cut from a saw and it'll die and fall off by itself. No need to remove it. Done it hundreds of times. All the best!

Cut a ring around the ivy it will die off. You don't need to remove it. I do a couple of trees here and there every now and then. It also saves creepy crawly habitat.

Happy Easter to you and yours. Brilliant invention, simple solution when you think about it, we have 3 of those automatic headgates and a pure nuisance even with two people. Another good video Adrian 👍thinking,,,,,Hudson thought he was going to have a ride in quad box! 🤪 you done well on gate post and cattle crush 👍👍 wet ground hardly any chain harrowing and rolling done here in Somerset uk just so wet! As for posts rotting out, they seem to have a life span now of 5-7 years, if you had a redundant ibc tank, you could fill up 2 foot of it with old engine oil (after servicing machines) leave fencing stakes soaking , lift out a few days before you want to use them so they can drain off, just a idea, noticed the ones I done are still strong and in place coming up 10 yrs , anyway stay safe have a good week 👍🍻 oh take it all calving finished and cattle all good 👍

I seem to remember it being called the luck of the Irish. Well it has been said before and I agree how smart, tidy and hard working a professional you are Adrian. An ambassador for Ireland and farming I tink it is fair to say. Only in Ireland would a gatepost fall backwards and a gate rise. A bucket full of tools along with much time and hard work albeit you did go to the expense of a new bubble ( great distraction gag ) for your level so it was sure to be corrected properly. One thing you can't change was the date you posted the video, perhaps two or even one 30 or 36 mm spanner was all the tools needed to put that gate right. Right ! Either way, keep up the good work...................😜😜

Happy Easter! I always enjoy your videos and the Ireland landscapes. Recently on another farm channel that I follow - Gierok Farms (small family dairy in Wisconsin) they did a video called "Do farmers make money?" which was an overview of their family and dairy operations. The topics covered were based on the viewer questions received in the comment section over the years. The presentation of the overview is basically the dad and son touring the dairy talking about the history and operations of their dairy. Check the video out and I bet your viewers would enjoy something similar about your dairy. Just a thought and suggestion.... Take care...

The only type of trees that I would get cut down in the fields if I were you Adrian would be the ash trees because of the Ash dieback problems in this country. A lot of ash does get covered in a lot of ivy no doubt and that is a real pain in the hole itself 🌳

I really hate to come up with ideas after the job is done . But to maybe give others some ideas - I would have chained the iron post to back of the tractor and pulled it back from where it came. After getting it to right spot I would back tamp with crowbar and gravel. I'll admit that a 13' post is a factor but as posts slip down a hill the uphill side is usually very soft and uncompacted. Wet time in spring would be best time.
