Spring Knit FOs: Mohair Blouse, Marie Wallin Hat & More - Seedling Stitch Knitting Podcast -Mar 2024
*March 2024- Seedling Stitch Knitting Podcast*
This episode is blessed with many colourful joyful spring knit projects. I'm most proud of my Rosental Sweater knitted with double strand of silk mohair, and I explained in detail how I modified to do the picot edge. I made the Tarn Tam designed by Marie Wallin but changed the colour scheme to use up my scrap yarn. There are also socks, mittens, scarf and a self-drafted cardigan WIP inspired by Logan Roy's outfit from the HBO show Succession. And there are knitting book and non-knitting book recommendations as well. Hope you enjoy this episode!
Happy knitting,
💚 Athena

So happy to see your smiling face in another lovely episode. Love your grandpa power cardigan so far. You are such a talented designer! You do not need a power sweater as you have power of your own, but it is stunning. So glad you've continued the creative work that gives you such joy, it shows in your episodes. Please keep on with the nerdy stuff, people can fast forward if they're not into it at the time. But that is a great asset you possess. Carry on, oh creative one!

Hi fellow Athena!!!😆
I know I already said this but need to give another moment of appreciation for your stunning mohair blouse!! The lace is beautiful, and your choice of material & your picot modifications has completely transformed the design! And I love the nerdy stuff haha - I know it's not easy to explain these things so I really do love that you take the time to talk through it because I find it so helpful and interesting! Now I feel empowered to add a picot edge! Besides, nerds are the best, especially knitting nerds 😂 That's so special that you created your own mitten design based on the vintage Chinese pattern dictionary, that feels like such a special project! I always come away from your videos feeling super inspired to create something new so thank you for sharing your aaamazing creations!!! And I recently read Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow as well and LOVED it. For a time I was also super inspired to knit something hokusai-wave esque, inspired by the ichigo game in the book haha. It's a great story, I was completely ugly crying throughout the book!

Oh that vintage Chinese stitch dictionary is a TREASURE! I plan to create more things from it this year. I wonder why there aren’t modern ones like it now. Nowadays it’s mostly Japanese knitting books translated in China.☹️ Tomorrow * 3 is so emotionally charged and nerdy too (about games, music, visual arts). I was a big fan of Japanese ukiyoe even before the book. I’d love it if you can transform one into knitting!🌊🌊🌊
I love the “nerdy stuff”, keep talking about it please 🙏😆

Thank you! For those Japanese patterns, I often find them discussed on Chinese social media (mostly on Red Book - the Chinese equivalent of Instagram) since a lot of those are introduced and translated. What’s popular among Chinese knitting community can be quite different from those with English community. I also follow Japanese designers and knitting magazine publishers on Instagram. Feel free to look at my followings there to see if anyone interests you!

I read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I like it but I thought there was a bit of "extra" unnecessary information not directly related to the storyline, but I do recommend the book and told my daughters they should read it
@SeedlingStitch
3 ай бұрын
I enjoyed the “extra” digressions perhaps because I’m interested in the topics where she digressed (video games, music, city vibes,…), but I can see why one may find those distracting.
Would you be so kind and make a video tutorial how exactly to knit these beautiful cuffs and collar :)
@SeedlingStitch
3 ай бұрын
I won’t be able to make tutorials, but if you search “how to knit picot edge”, there should be many good ones!
Oh funny! I just knit the sweater from the cover of that 2018 Keitodama magazine :) I even got Jamiesons Spindrift yarn in the same color, but comparing it with Holst Supersoft, i was very disappointed. Considering that you pay 6 euros for 25 g of Spindrift but only 3 euros for 50g of Holst, i found the thick-and-thin quality of Spindrift, often knots, and how scratchy it is in comparison not so good. But at least I have the sweater in the same color :)
@SeedlingStitch
3 ай бұрын
Oh interesting! I actually prefer Jamison’s spindrift over Supersoft (if not considering the cost). I love Spindrift’s loft and heathering. The unevenness usually blocks out for me. I prefer its thicker weight as well.
@nadiarogo4511
3 ай бұрын
@@SeedlingStitch I have not yet worn it so maybe it's nice. I live in Germany and feel that the thicker quality might be too warm for our climate... But we'll see :) We all have our preferences. Maybe my expectations were too high based on the price haha

Greetings from Portland,. Is silk mohair scratch it all I know kids silk is scratchy, I believe, and what I have found the only do that aren’t scratch, alpaca and Siri

Drops Kid Silk can be scratchier than KFO Soft Silk Mohair. Brushed Alpaca yarn like CaMaRose Midnatssol can be even softer.

Talking about nerdy things and techniques, the more complicated the better, is what makes your channel so enjoyable. I do not like the "look at my FOs, i knit them to pattern, they look fine" knitting podcasts very much, because they do not add any value nor give educational content.
