Very Good Video. If only this video would have been out many years ago. When I started painting, the paint store that sold me my first gun recommended having the paint volume opened all the way up. Needless to say, I had runs and inconsistent spray amounts because I tried to control the run issue. Thank you for putting this out! And as the other commenters stated I like your no BS approach and getting right to the point.

Us Paint Reps speak to all gun manufacturers and discuss proper gun set up. You turn your volume all the way out-with the trigger pulled -turn it in until you feel tension- From there you start to count turns in. I’m all the way open sometimes up to one turn in- we need to speak the same Language. Use the slowest Activator/Reducer you can handle. Spray in cooler conditions , 69f is perfect if you can get it. Heat doesn’t improve flow it actually creates Peel cause you have a tendency to overload. Spray with a faster arm movement, with 60-70% overlap. It will lay down flat. I tell painters to practice on bumpers by spraying quickly.

Alot of different techniques to painting. My techniques are based off experience after 30 plus year and are alway being refined. Great job but I'm wondering how you are getting away with spraying without a booth? Do you have an exhaust fan to get the overspray out. Did you have your torpedo heater running also? I used to spray in my garage but I had the overhead door slightly open with a torpedo heater by the side door entrance just outside but facing in & a whole house belt driven fan on the opposite end on the wall with the window open + furnace filters on the wooden enclosure I built for the fan. I only had siphon spray guns. Great videos you have, like them all.

I layed down the primer and metallic basecoat real nice.... Drop coat on the base, and it came out absolutely perfect.... Clear coat on other hand.... Quite bad orange peel... I was 2 turns out on the fluid, at 29psi....... But i think i stayed too far away from the panel... I increased my distance when spraying the metallic basecoat.. So i think i automatically did that with clear coat too... could that be the main cause of the orange peel?

@@GarageNoise Hey Chris I started painting today after putting a few months of preparation on the 1992 VW Cabby. I can email pictures if you think it will help ID the problem. I'm using an R500 out of the box today with a 1.3 tip. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks Jimmy

@@jimmyo5367 send me pics garagenoise247@gmail.com I believe your sealer might be having a reaction to the substrate. Are you painting over the sand orig paint or did you strip it all down? It may just be as simple as appling the sealer too wet on the first coat. Sealer likes to do that I always suggest a light coat to start with to introduce the sealer to the substrate. If their shallow fisheyes (i believe that's what they are) than most of the time they will dissappear on the second coat and won't affect the appearance.

This was paint that was very cheap, like $136 for a full gallon of red metallic basecoat cheap. However, I was wondering if it is more likely the paint or the filter?
