I can tell you from experience that unless you have a souped up computer with a large amount of GPU, you're not able to do the AI modeling on your own computer. The whole process is very resource intensive and complex behind the scenes. I only know this because i tried setting up AI voice modeling on my computer and the app was all like "uhm. No" and procceded to shame me as to how small my cpu and GPU was

Vochlea does this with the instrumentation from humming or vocals with a microphone that they sell. But you can do this in Logic by changing audio to midi notes pretty effectively.

Yeah you can do the voice change thing local. There's multiple projects implementing tech for formant cloning, the old fashioned way, and with CUDA cores you can do inferencing to map timbre and timing from one model to basically whatever input. The newest incarnation of this, istr, only requires about a minute of speech to clone. Wild shit. Hate all of it.

There’s a cheaper AI voice transformer plugin called VOIS. It’s the exact same payment structure though, except it doesn’t expire

This can definitely be done locally on your computer. They're probably using RVC technology, for which you basically just need a decent graphics card

I heard that line as, "If only I could sing in MANLY voices," just for the record. Might be just me. Anyway, this will be one of the new ways to mask sampling copyrighted stuff, so be prepared for countless 'cover versions' all using the same few usable preset voices in the near future. And once the novelty wears off, and everyone has to use up their 300 minutes worth of tokens, expect the zanier voices to be *everywhere*, as well, from answering machines to KZread videos.

Main reason I'm ashamed to buy Apple products is how they're so insanely anti-repair and anti-upgrade. I still use an Intel Mac from 2018, and from this point I don't know if I'm ever moving forward to Apple Silicon. Their prices for storage and RAM upgrades are ridiculously bloated, and they've ensured that it's the only option. Want 32 GB of RAM? CHA-CHING!!! Want more than 512 GB of storage? CHA-CHING! How can they be so out of touch with what modern computers actually need?

I've upgraded the RAM on my mac to 96GB and never once got it from Mac, you can get it from 3rd party manufacturers and it works fine.

They let the tokens only last 13 months for accounting reasons. They can’t count the tokens as income until they are used.

🤔 hmm, no, I don’t think that’s correct. Tokens are tokens, money is money. When someone buys tokens using money, that money becomes income, right then and there. In this case, the token is an arbitrary number that is designed to confuse consumers that are too lazy or unable mentally to calculate the true monetary value of this service. This means that you can’t even value the service on a pay-per-use basis without doing math. Look, these types of services would go over much better if they’d just be transparent. Tokens are a scam. Let that be a red flag🚩 for the whole bloody lot of ya.😉

@@razzthemad that’s not true from an accounting perspective. They have to realize the sale of tokens as unearned income, because they still have to provide the service associated with those tokens. If you take a lawn mowing job and are paid in advance, you can’t realize this as income until the job is completed. This is confusing to normies, but it’s just how things are done in accounting. The rest of what you said about them obfuscating how tokens hide the true cost of something is correct. The accounting part isn’t though.

But I can sure as hell smell a scam, and anything that changes money into a proprietary token is a scam. Voice transformer at x2 playback... Wow.. what can I say..

There are many reasons to run the models on the cloud. It's a lot more reliable, and a lot safer for them tech-wise, it needs fewer client-side downloads, and models can be retrained and redeployed... but yes, it also supports the milking side of it. To be fair I think it's acceptable from a technical point of view, but I'd prefer if there was an option to download the models and run the predictions locally.

The sound ID thing is so messed up. I have video & photo editing AI software, chat gpt alternatives that runs 100% on my computer. This is just a BS excuse to create a "subscription" that doesn't look like a subscription. Would be cool, but i will never spend money on garbage companies with their predatory pricing.

The Weaves, sure Apple didn't _crush_ it with that ad, but the real crime here is how they now remove cores from the Pro 256 and 512 models. Previously they came with less ram, but now they come with less CPU as well. This is the firs time they've done this in the iPad space. So if you want a full spec cpu iPad with Nano Glass you are looking at around $2000!!!! And that is before you add cellular, Apple Care, the new Pencil (which you have the get, because the old pencil is incompatible), or pay the Gov.

Now book publishers are about to be mixed in with the fuckery. It's hard as is and now it's just ridiculous. Musicians need to go on strike and let all these companies that need music see just how important music really is.... You can't just keep doing this and expecting no action from the people who they are directly affecting. People should just build their own websites and offer music sales that way. Go back to selling physical media again....or just stream your own shit from your website. Problem solved....

Imo when reason allows its plugins to be VSTi type plugins I would seriously consider using it again regularly. I love its plugins but I think some type of vsti interconnect would allow it to work with other daws also as the plugins are great fun and the modularity is also cool but all these companies not just reason native plugins is a little bit a a diservice to musicians themselves in that if all these native plugins had native code ported to some shell or vsti / fx etc.. its not just a reason thing but reason has cool enough instruments that I would consider buying them as a vst package, I like reason just never felt compofortable with it for making songs, also even rebirth plugs as vst would be cool too.

Reason is (was) a fantastic piece of kit but I'm guessing strapping VST support on, the new mixer, cost more than it was worth. Their jive with licensing and subs have made me drop them entirely. I've been a prophead since rebirth. Rip.

If songwriters could pull songs off dsp’s it would’ve happened a long time ago. We actually have already tried and the courts ruled it illegal. It’s a pretty common mistake to lump artists and writers into the same category, but artists/master owners get paid substantially more AND have the power to pull their music off the platforms. This newest move by Spotify is aimed once again purely at songwriters.

They aren't the first, Vocaloid has a vst/au that also does it in real time, I have all the voices, they're not too great but they do the job and there's no tokens it's just a one time sale. They don't 'need' to do this through tokens.

I’m reasongang IMO biggest attribute and main reason I stay is the mixer (even tho they took out inset hot keys since v11😡) but still there is no better mixer out of box in any other daw, and everytime you create new track or instrument, you automatically get that channel strip dropped in, it’s incredible, which is kind of ironic cause back in day it was there WORST attribute lol, the 14:2 mixer you use in combinator now use to actually be main mixer😂

The A.I. stuff is no surprise because for last 15 years or so whenever online Beat lease stuff got going everything coming seemed to always have the beatmakers do less and less of the actusl beatmaking while slapping tag on it like they themselves did anything so now not just the beats are done by something other thsn who will credit for it now voices mmtoo. They are selling this concept thst anybody with no skill no practice no talent can be a professional beatmaker or producer recording with finished song that thry credit without actuslly doing any but opening a daw and pressing a button. There is no wonder the value of musicianship and production and songwriting and vocal performance has been made to be worth pennies . Nobody doing this bullshit should be in same storefront online or otherwise with people like Prince like real actual talented and skilled musicians bestmsketd producers songwriters vocalists etc. The social media trend of faking everything has now moved into faking being a musician with this mess. All fun n games until somebody is booked on Jimmy Fallon or something for a live performance . Reason 13 looks fine but until they make it easier to just grab a one shot and use it in the piano roll the same way I can with FL, I'm not coming back. Reason has a lot of cool things going for it but for "making beats" the changes to the workflow are nowhere near sufficient enough. Cool for mfs still using Reason, though.
