That was his own ego! He thought playing hurt he was better then anyone else and he was a liability. If ur team is happy being decent then they have serious issues. And that's all we would've been with Baker. If u have a chance to get one of the best at their position u do what u have to do. Watson is a top 3-5 QB and Baker at his best is a middle of the pack QB. It's a no brainer! Can't feel bad for someone that ranked near the bottom of the league in every category and is gonna make $19 mil the following year lol. If I did my job that badly I wouldn't have a job or imcome

The hard lesson is a lesson he should have already figured out ... the Browns front office is clueless. Baker complains about the number of HCs and OCs he’s had to deal with and expected the Browns to act rationally.

It’s the owner and the coach. Kevin run his offense how he wants and doesn’t give any control to the qb. Baker has been free to audible since college and he never got that freedom in Cleveland. As frat boy as he is he’s a smart dude and is good at changing plays

Yes. Baker has been great for the Browns esp. after Manziel (or the last 16 QB's). Baker brought stability and fun back to Cleveland, finally. It was almost fun to be 'the' browns fan again.

What surprises me is all this heated interest in a group of college QBs that really not that overwhelming and are projects.

teams at the bottom looking for a qb will always talk them selves into it, but that gives the rest of the league a chance to get a good player so pray for as many 1st round qbs as possible

Every year this happens. There are no first round talents in this draft but it’s looking like there will be two or three drafted in the first round. Flashback to the beginning of the college ball season and I was laughing uncontrollably at the fact that these draft experts ranked some of these QB’s so high. I don’t understand it, but hey it’s not my millions getting wasted. Spencer rattler, Sam Howell, ridder, Willis, Pickett, Carson wentz, trey lance…they all do the things you want a franchise QB to do, but they ARE NOT franchise type players. Watch the damn film and watch the body language. Why do you think San Fran isn’t shipping Jimmy G away…? Cause trey lance played at freaking North Dakota state and someone in the front office actually thought this guy would be a franchise changing player. What the hell.

I think Baker's realistic ceiling would probably look like Andy Dalton's time in Cincinnati. Not bad enough to fire but not good enough to ever win a championship

I'm a Cincy fan. Always have been. I grew up here. I'm supposed to Hate the Browns...I don't. I never have. And Baker Mayfield has made them shine brighter than I've ever seen b4.

I’m a Vikings fan, and I would absolutely love to see Baker in purple and gold. Probably not going to happen, but I would be ecstatic

I am a Bengals fan. I always hate Mayfield. BUT, dude is tough and played all of last year with a broken shoulder. And now the Browns disrespect him by getting Watson who will be in lots and lots of legal troubles for years to come. Mayfield should vow not to play if Browns keep him. He deserves better than Cleveland.

Dalton was a second round pick, though. Not the number one overall. People expect more. Dalton did take them to the playoffs but played badly in a few of the losses and just didn't get the job done. He had chances. They made the playoffs at least 4-5 times and whiffed. Mayfield was curbed for a shinier and more expensive model. Don't think it's better though. It's the. Browns after all. They'll screw it up. Watson is a law breaking furd

As a Bucs fan since their award of a franchise in 1976.... Go get Mayfield. The idea of having him to back up Brady and take over as starter with our offensive weapons is making me giddy. Browns will eat a ton of the contract, will trade him for a late round pick and snowcones. Worth the risk.

As a Browns fan who Baker and the squad that was built gave hope to for the first time since I was born, I dont understand the animosity that built so quickly between the coaches and Baker. The only explanation that I can think of is that Baker was not a Berry/Stefanski pick for qb. I dont think Baker got a fair shot in 2021. You didnt need to be a coach or medical advisor to see by week 8 that he was not physically able to compete to his fullest capability. It is perhaps one of the single worst season decisions that I can think of in recent memory. And the more information that comes out the more I believe it was intentional. In any case, I regret seeing Baker go. The guy brought a winning attitude to an organization that had been losers since their re-inception to the league. I just, dont get it.

I think the answers lie in the injuries... Should he have played? Was he told he should or shouldn't? Did he go against them an play poorly in result? Or the opposite. But either way it's got something to do with his injury/regression in his reads. Cause tbh Baker didn't play well game one. Maybe the pressure got to him. An the injuries made it worse

I've watched Baker his whole career since college and I completely agree with he's been petty and has done some dumb ish. However, the way he's being treated right now is straight up disgraceful. With the way he's being treated you would think he went and got caught up in cases with dozens of different women or something. They say he's not a responsible adult yet he's never done anything that irresponsible.

As a browns fan I was rooting for Baker. I felt this season coming up and if he was healthy he was going to have a great season. He needed this season I think he earned it. We seen what he could do when healthy.

I have no bias for Cleveland whatsoever, but I watched a good bit of Mayfield. He's just not that good. Very marginal QB. He had the best running game in the league, a top 3 line, and a great receiving group, and he was still just ok. (even the year before last) With an average running game, or a poor O-line, he will be terrible. The eyes don't lie. While he's tough, he needs to quit blaming everyone else and look in the mirror. Learn from the likes of Drew Brees or Eli Manning.

I was looking back at the 2018 NFL Draft, remembering all the excitement the Browns generated when they selected Baker Mayfield as the #1 pick that year. How things have changed! He’s in a most unusual situation for a young veteran quarterback. Has he burned THAT many bridges? No team seems to want him anymore!

Mayfield said I'm not coming back after Cleveland said they weren't getting Watson, that's true. He plays best when he's pissed and I think he will have a great year next year ... If he plays! 😥

@@Pnk_Rckr Passing yardage doesn't mean much. Winston lead the league in yards the year before that and Dak was 2nd. No one would take those guys in their top 5 or 10 QBs. Watson is still good just saying yardage alone can be a deceiving stat.

Baker said repeatedly he wasn't worried about his individual stats because it was more important to put team first and win games. This is coming back to bite him. Watson does not have a history of getting his locker room fired up to win games, but HIS individual stats are what interested Cleveland & got him that huge contract. This should be interesting. A little hard to retain star players if Watson's enormous salary leaves the coffers bare. 🤔🏈

Just look to what Myles Garrett said about Baker at the end of the season. He basically says he’s a QB for now and we gonna roll with him…not a ringing endorsement. He disrespected the Browns by making them think you are a franchise altering QB. Joe Burrow single handedly change the Bengals franchise…

Detroit don’t want him, we have a mediocre QB already. We will be drafting a QB next year. Mayfield is just more mediocrity.

I got a feeling all these qbs in the draft are gonna suck. Could be wrong but every team that needs somewhat of a qb went out and got a veteran. Not a good sign when every scout is like F this years qb class. Haven't seen it since 2013

If your accountant messes up and the IRS fines you can you not criticize him because you do not know how difficult it is? Baker was not very good before the injury and was even worse after it. If he was dealing when healthy like a Rodgers, Mahomes, or Brady then nobody would care if he looked bad when injured. However, he wasn't.

Baker Mayfield will play his heart out, and he has the arm to show everyone what he can do, saw it at OU, Browns. He is a leader and can bring so much to a team, our family will support whichever team that is smart enough to get him. How many quarterbacks had 4 coaches in 4 years. Enough said!!

As a Colts fan I'd still love to have Baker. Matt Ryan will probably retire in a few years, wouldn't hurt to have a playoff winner as a backup that can start once Ryan retires.

Love Ryan but at this point he's a Physics though experiment know as Schrodinger Cat. At his age coming into a new city new coaches you have absolutely no idea what is in the box when you open it in September he will either play well or will be washed. There is no way of knowing yet.

Baker has shown he’s tough playing through all of those injuries. I think the best thing he can do is get out of Cleveland. That organization is a clown show and that’s a shame because the fans in Cleveland deserve better.

People here have made the comparison of the “situation”to working in a Corporation. And that is True. When a Corporation wants to get rid of a Manager who isn’t a boot licker (and more often than not that is the No 1 reason) what do they do? They bad mouth the Manager. They spread rumors. They lie. I’ve seen it happen to lots of good people too many times. It’s standard operating procedure. The Browns are a typical corporation that doesn’t look at “football players” based upon “heart”, toughness, winner mentality. They look at Numbers. And they’re too stupid, or arrogant, (or both) to realize that numbers alone will never win a Super Bowl. Browns Fan.

Baker did a lot of stupid things. He didn’t show up to the post game presser after that crap performance against Detroit. He decided not to play the final game against Pittsburgh. Both sides here at fault, but Baker is not the guy and the Browns realized that after watching Joe Burrow take his team to the big game.

He was done after that and the Browns had no choice, but to pay Deshaun Watson otherwise; they would be without a starting quarterback. It was a nice safety net to throw the QB to the wolves after the entire organization looked incompetent for most of the season.

Man… everyone seems to ignore Browns did him dirty though. He came out from his best season, didn’t have a new contract, go into a new season, he got a down year. No new contract, Brown get new QB, not 1, kot 2, but 3 QB. Brown still didn’t have some respect to him by either trade him, or release him. Man. That’s just some parts of the point that made the Brown shithole.
