Sportspal Canoe

There were many reason I decided to get a Sportspal Canoe over another kayak.

Have it, and a jon boat, and friends with power boats, bass boats, etc. and we all use this canoe the most, with a trolling motor. The downside is sitting in it for more than a couple of hours at a time can be painful, even if you add padding. They also sell a sailing kit if you'd like to sail with it once in a while, with the added bonus of having the sailing stabilizers on all the time and being able to fish standing.

Nice review. Almost bought this model a few years ago but found a dent free 1970s 15.5 foot Grumman Sport Boat for 900 dollars. Twice as heavy at 125 pounds with a 42 inch beam. Needs a trailer though but its a rare beast with double oar locks if you dont want to use a motor (which i do). Shined it up with scotchbrite pads and it looks brand new. Replacing the motor mount pads today to beef up the transom to take some of my vintage outboards. Can paddle the thing (poorly) and even sail it but I dont have or want a sail kit. Happy water travels from a fellow Ontarian.

I could have done this video, I went the same route... Bought a Old Town Topwater 120 kayak, then replace it with a Perception Crank 10 pedal drive. I juste bought a Sportspal 12 transom and my kayak will go on sale on Kijijji and Marketplace... Great canadian made canoe !

When I was young we had a Raddison which is very similar to the SportsPal. They are incredibly light and very stable with the foam sponsons and perfect for 2 people. My Native Slayer Max “sit on top” Peddle Drive Kayak weighs in over 120 lbs and I absolutely love fishing from it but I need a trailer to haul it around and if the wife wants to come we need to take 2 kayaks. These canoes are great for all the reasons you mentioned.

Picked my 14ft Wide Transom Sportspal yesterday on a cold cold day, people on the highway opened windows to give me thumbs up and victory gestures LOL, it was funny. It's bright red colour, and looking forward to summer. Yes, weight was the main factor because my current canoe is a 17 footer polycarbonate, almost 145lbs, very heavy. Sportspal is Lexus of Canoes no doubt.

We just sold our 14’ square stern for this exact model, even same colour! We loved our other sportspal but this one takes our 2.5 Merc much better. And is actually more stable. I have the non squared backed version. It's a good compromise between portaging and putting the trolling motor on there. I ended up putting a 45lb trust and upgraded to the 54ah lithium. Lightweight setup runs all day(avg 6-8hr days) for fishing with 2 people.

I almost bought the 16 myself but got the 14 just for ease of transport by myself. The 16 is definitely still manageable with one person, it’s around 20lbs heavier but I was able to lift it myself without too much strain. You can definitely put floor mats over the foam - that’s a good idea for sure! We picked up strap on seats with backrests at Canadian Tire for a reasonable price, $30-40 I think.

If your not using a motor at all I wouldn’t get a flatback or wide transom . The full transom model is more stable of course but it paddles terribly. The regular pointed back model is still stable, very stable actually since it’s so wide in the middle but I’d easier to paddle. The square stern is the best of both worlds so if your ever going to get a small motor in the future I’d check that one out.

We’re from Ontario, Canada, I wouldn’t know that unfortunately. Try calling your local canoe/kayak shop

They make the U.S version in Adrian Michigan. I've seen the 14' pointed advertised for $1388 at a dealer in Ohio. This was today 2/15/22. I'd imagine the shipping would be quite expensive to Wisconsin

You've had it out 10 times "which is crazy". Why is it crazy ? You didn't expect it to last that long ? Or are you just a valley girl that likes saying, like crazy.

You took a quote from the first 10 seconds of this video so you clearly didn’t watch the rest of it where I explained those 10 fishing trips were in a short period of time. Thanks for the comment valley girl

Got the same canoe with a 2.5 Yamaha. Amazing for camping and we do muskie all the time. Going to French river this weekend! Good luck bro! Do you have instagram? @vtekandfox send me a follow!
