Freighters... they always seem like such a wonderful concept. I'm on my 3rd and it mostly lives on the rack, just like the last two, while my Explorer and Prospector get used steady. I wont sell it though... cause I'd probably eventually buy another, somehow convinced that THIS time I'll love it. It seems like a skiff/ canoe hybrid should be a win, but somehow you just end up with a boat that lacks all the advantages of either craft.

I have Coleman RAM-X 17 footer Fiberglass, can't complain, east to row and feels lighter, very stable.

Great video! Wonder if you can provide the stern dimension difference between the Mallard and Mallard XL. Also have you taken both boats in the water to test them? Better yet do you have a pond near the store for us serious buyers to try both?

I know you stated that the boat will handle a 2hp outboard, I have a Suzuki 2.5, would that be over doing it, the motor is very light, under 30lbs.

Obviously this man is a beast of untold strength.... On Esquif site, the difference between a Mallard and Mallard XL isn't terribly clear, but it seems the XL is a touch wider and can be used as a rowboat which makes it a hugely versatile boat. Also, it seems like the MAllard doesn't get the nice web seat/yoke combo now like the one in your vid, but rather a cane seat. Yuck. The Heron looks to be a great option for another 200 lb capacity and only 10 lbs heavier. Love Esquif boats...

I have a canoe that had cane seats. Highly comfortable, and it lasted for 7 years of hard use without any maintenance. It probably would have made it a couple more years too, but I cut out the cane and installed webbing. Cost $30 and took about an hour...

Does this come in a smaller model? what would you say is the best for duck and goose hunting for going down the Delaware? I only hunt by myself. im in Coopersburg PA

I can't find any gas outboards under 2.3hp. What would happen if you put a motor on this that's over 2hp?

The Mercury 2.5 HP weighs the same, 41 Lbs. as a 3.5 HP. The weight then increases 16 lbs when you jump to a 5 HP or a 6 HP. The weight is not an issue, the motor HP is a recommended number based on power and safety concerns.

Sale price is currently $1999. The max weight is 600 lbs. This would work well for you, and very lightweight.

I looked them up, the width seems narrow at 30". Also what up with their website?? Old school, and not a single picture of a built actual canoe... all artist rendered shots... fiberglass also is a bit fragile... I would be careful with that, wouldn't be a canoe that I would purchase. -Isaiah

The capacity suggested by Esquif is weight of the passengers only. This boat will hold 1000 lbs

Yeah, the Sportspal is also a total piece of junk IMO. Owned one a couple years, least favorite boat I've ever set foot in. Never used the Esquif, but it appears that the hull is actually strong enough to support the seats.
