SPORTS CARS: N/A Porsche 718 Cayman GTS vs Turbo Audi TT RS | Stig's Garage ft. Becky Evans

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Naturally aspirated or turbocharged is a question that often divides the motoring world, so in this instalment of Stig’s Garage, we have two German sports cars that both make 395bhp to battle it out on the Top Gear test track. The 718 Cayman GTS has a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Its contender, the TT RS, has a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder under the bonnet. Becky reckons the Cayman is more of a driver's car but also knows the Audi has all the mechanical grip and power to take on the Porsche. Time for Becky Evans to make her predictions and let the Stig do what the Stig does best. What's your money on?

If he had used the paddle shifters I'm sure he would have been able to get a faster time. That being said I don't really mind that he left it in sport and just let the car pick the gears for him. Still a decent lap time in the end.

As a serial owner of both TTs and Boxsters I can confidently say that in the “real world” of everyday driving, there’s not much out there quicker than TT RS from point to point as you can just jump in one and drive it to 90% of its ability almost immediately, whereas getting anywhere near the limits of a high revving, mid-engined RWD car requires a huge amount of skill, balls and risk that you just wouldn’t take on a public road.

On a track yes a mid engine Porsche is awesome. In the real world wear there’s weather, debris, and climate, the Audi can’t be beat by the Porsche. A summer car vs an all rounder it’s a no brainer. Besides even on track if your not a pro you can exploit the Audi easier than the Porsche.

No he didn't. He clearly moved the shifter over at the beginning after the launch. The car will still shift up when necessary but he has the ability to downshift when he wants.

An Audi can never be faster than a Porsche. That's the unwritten rule. And that Cayman is a manual on a damp track.

Owned both but pdk in the 718, night and day difference between the two cars the tt feels fast but the 718 is quick far more quicker than the tt, just a corner and the Porsche is gone, shocked to see the S that slow behind as also owned one them before the gts and the 2.5 turbo even faster round a track or down A roads

swear to deity, if I see a gts4.0 in a manual get compared to a auto audi I am going to lose my MIND. A PDK 718 gts 4.0 is faster than a ttrs off the line.

  • @erikw792

Does that really matter? The GTS still won with the manual. The price gap would only increase with the PDK. Plus some people prefer a manual and would like to see how it compares to other cars. BTW that Python Green GTS was a UK press car. Nearly every UK review features that car. It's what Porsche put out for reviews.

And no-one ever drives at 9/10ths on the road. Who would notice 1.4 seconds faster driving to the bloody co-op on our shitty overcrowded roads? Add some snow, potholes, cow shit, gravel, bicyclists, death-wish scooter riding pensioners, and all you have left is the quality of the ride (Audi wins) its practically (Audi wins) its service costs (Audi easily wins) cabin luxury (Audi wins). Oh, and they both go bloody fast if you get the chance.
