You'd never guess I'd have to edit this twice cause EA hates you using this one particular Spore Trailer. Seriously, flagged the video twice. Never pursue a dream with EA. They'll stomp your Lemonade stand to death out of spite.

City stage my beloved. Used to specifically skip to that stage just because I thought it was the most fun- I really loved the options for takeover- usually I'd either go with culture/faith (because I genuinely don't remember if they'd ever even attack you for converting their cities) or the favorite: big flowers with massive guns on them!!! I'd spend hours designing their buildings and picking out my city ambience. To this day I want a website that lets you pick out the ambience from the city stage. I spent so long in the creature designer trying to make a feasible human being. Never did succeed, but what can I say, I was like 12. Edit: almost forgot- economic is easier if you start as military. you can switch at any time and buying up other cities is so much easier when you already conquered the other cities spice geysers with less work

Spore was my first game to download, and I'm really disappointed that after 13 years there hasn't been a sequel to this game (if there were currently many with the All Tomorrows Fandom I would do Qu XD stuff) I hope that one day a sequel will be released with the graphics of this era.

Me, 18 minutes ago: Oh hey, this guy did a video about my favorite game of all time. Me at 18:22 looking at how my funky little tribe of mushroom frogs I made somehow got their way into a KZread video, giggling like a little schoolgirl: *Look ma! I'm on TV!* But all things set aside, despite how much of a slog this game is at times this has been a keystone game for my creativity and I for one love this video for showcasing how much of a mess it is. But more importantly, about the fact that this game exists is still a miracle. In spite of the Spin-offs, in spite of the delays, and in indubitable spite against the company that shall not be named. So despite how harsh you picked on this beautiful hunk of junk I and I bet so many other people will say thanks for giving Spore a chance, and the fact you made it to the Space Stage told me you at least tried all of the courses off this eclair of evolution.

Spore was probably the first actual game I played. Sure, there were some flash games and such before it, but I got Spore when I was 8, and I played it religiously for years. I must have had hundreds of planets and thousands of creatures by the time I shifted away into Halo 4, Terraria, and Destiny, 3-4 whole years later. I absolutely adored it, and played it over and over again, whether just creating creatures for fun or taking a cell all the way to space over a week. I don't have it anymore, thanks to EA hating joy and happiness, but as that one weird kid whose favorite movie as a child was Alien Planet and whose favorite book was Expedition (and if you like spore at all then you should absolutely check out both), Spore was truly magical to me.

A lot of folks talk about the scrapped Aquatic Stage, but there was also a scrapped "Town Stage" which would be in between Tribe Stage and Civilization Stage. It would be like a simplified city builder where you have to build up your fledgling town managing things like culture, crime and pollution. I think that this idea would've probably fit a lot better because the way you run your town would be a better indication for how you would decide to conquer the planet. If you make your town an Authoritarian Police State where criminals and decent are severely punished, you'd be a Military Nation. If you focused more on culture and faith in your town, you'd become a Religious Nation. If you made your town an industrial powerhouse, you'd become an Economic Nation.

8:50 I can highly relate to this moment, both with the game crashing when I died near to completing hard mode creature stage, then realising the last time I saved was more or less 5 minutes after starting the creature stage. And then the first town I took over in civ stage on that world I accidentally chose to keep as an economic city, then save just before a military civilisation began to attack my original city. And as basically everyone hates you in hard mode by default, I had no possible way to progress with a single city I accidentally kept as economic.

18:20 in response to that question I can think of only 2 others. Team Fortress 2, and Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo CE has an EXTENSIVE modding scene via Halo Custom Edition, which is basically a mod platform for the PC port of the game. Multitudes of mods are STILL being released for Halo CE, especially now that through the MCC it’s receiving proper, first party mod tools for the first time. The abandonware port of the game was kept alive by its modding scene for at least a decade, really more like 15 years. Now while the support of Custom Edition has waned with the release of proper mod tools, causing people to move over to the Master Chief Collection, it’s still very much alive. And if you don’t believe me, just look at some of the things people have created in recent years with SPV3 and especially InfernoPlus’s Cursed Halo. It’s arguably been more supported than Spore.

"But if you play as a defensless herbivore you can either find them in meteors, or just collect them from the cells that other cells kill." Or stick spikes on your head and murder anyway. And this is still ignoring the option of having both a carnivore mouth and herbivore mouth(which I have pulled off _in the same spot,_ enlarging your frontmost bone to max after sticking the filtermouth on, then shrinking it back down to where you want it is the most consistent method I've found) or the omnivore's Proboscis.

"You get bored of this really, really quickly." I'm pretty sure the cell stage is like everybody's favorite stage (or is at least really close) Also, I've never actually have Spore crash even though my computer is almost as good as a calculator. The tribal stage was also one of the most fun for me too. (Also, not EVERY tribe starts mad at you) And also, if you think the space stage is kind of boring based on his war faring perspective, it's not. It's quite fun to befriend other space faring civilizations, then ask them to accompany you and then you can kill things together. Buy planets, steal creatures from other planets, use them to terraform other planets, and not to mention the fact that there are 8 different "classes" with unique superweapons. (Everyone hates you if you use them, except the Grox.) The game isn't actually as bad as he makes it seem, it can be a bit repetitive at times but it's still fun even after replaying it like 5 times.

I really liked this game when I was younger. The thing is, I was like 11-12 at the time. I didn't go online to read about videogames, I didn't know it was super hyped. I just saw it one day, thought it looked neat, and bought it. And I played a LOT of spore. Playing through the game, the creator creation is certainly limited. Like you mentioned, there is always a "best" part. But to me, my favourite part was just making random creatures, buildings, vehicles of all types, etc. Then when I DID play the game, they would all randomly appear. I think that alone is the best part of the "procedural generation", when you randomly stumble upon something YOU created (or even something cool by another person) in game. Since the abilities of other creatures is a lot less impactful than your own, they can have much more variety. The way they get more and more complicated as the stage progresses, the way you get to see and interact with so many creations... it's great. I thought village was certainly the worst (surprise) and city was okay, but space was also cool as heck. The entire concept is something that could be it's own full game, exploring the galaxy, flying down to planets, terraforming them. It literally teaches you SO much about what exists in space and how to get living creatures to survive. It was so important, the expansion was totally based around missions in space, that were basically a sandbox for people to make fully custom levels and quests to complete.

I think people fell in love with the idea of Spore, evolve with a species from single cells through civilization and space, maybe hang out as creatures for a while and see what you can get out of that. EA doesn't seem to understand games which may not be the main reason they dumbed down Spore from something that could be used in classes to show how one strange body type would move, to just another game for the masses and a franchise built on top. The character creator is great and I LOVED the original blurry demo. I don't know about playing it but that demo is a great opener to the imagination of where games can go. Maybe it proved to be too much work or having Sims and Civ under your belt wasn't enough to really sell it all but it's still impressive.

Pretty sure a lot of the reason why people are still making so much stuff for Spore to this day is because of the far and away more fun and interesting Galactic Adventures expansion pack (the biggest problem with Galactic Adventures is that it's an expansion pack for Spore, frankly), which was left completely unmentioned in this video. e: To be fair, I guess Galactic Adventures being an expansion for Spore at least spared it the fate that befell Darkspore, of being saddled with always-online DRM that rendered it literally unplayable after EA killed its servers.

SPORE is probably one of the games I return to the most, even if I hate the Tribal and Civilization stages for how BORING they are, I still come back just to make some cool monsters or outright mess with the galactic adventures planet editor. I'm honestly impressed by the amount of full playthroughs I have of this game alone, it was a huge part of my childhood too. I agree that the game had so much potential (the aquatic stage not being a thing makes me sad every time I remember it.) Right now I have discovered the modding scene, and boy oh boy that is going to expand my amount of hours put into the game.

It's not that great but I will say the main villain is amazing. to put it simply, it's just a creature in the space stage, which doesn't sound that interesting but from the perspective of a creature that while intelligent doesn't even have basic tools. and It's going up against a life form so advanced that it can take the DNA of other creatures and make entirely new ones.

my main path will pretty much always be -omnivore (by putting both carnivore & herbivore mouths on it) -Adaptable -industrious (being friendly is easy, just give them a gift first) -economic (and launch the final weapon on the bottom) & stop not long into the space stage

I never had an issue with the economic route. I was able to do trades with other cities by just getting slightly friendly with my sporebucks.

I've never had crashes in Spore. Spore crashes if you try to play it on modern computers apparently

  • @PlayerZeroStart
    @PlayerZeroStart3 жыл бұрын

I think you exaggerated quite a bit on how often the game crashes. In my experience, the game has only ever crashed when I performed a glitch that allowed you to fling yourself into space. Otherwise, it's been completely stable.

It is so weird to have this be the only Spore game I never played. Spore Creatures on the DS? Great. Spore Heroes on the Wii? Good exploration, shit minigames. But I never had a PC that could run this game, not to mention my lack of money.

I grew up with spore, played it in fourth grade at school in this weird extra activities thing we did once a month, got it for myself, loved it to death. Do I still love it? yes. I enjoy playing it every time I go back to it, Cell Stage is w/e, Creature stage is alright, Tribal Stage is fun, Civilization stage is very fun, and Space Stage is super fun for a while but its endless nature means the fun eventually drops off and I stop. I basically do not relate you ANY of your grievances, and when I would like to say "well i'm just nostalgia blind" there are other games that I am just as nostalgic for that I hate. So I dunno, subjectivity I guess
