@@joshual3486 Educated guess for š is sh, think that is closer in most languages. Coming from Germany I believe the problem most people have is that anglophones diphtongize all the vocals. Wien is written as Vienna so it is not pronounced as Wine. Whenever angophones say A E I O U Y we other europeans hear Ei/Ey I Ai/Ay Ow Yu Wai/y well except for the French. But still, this is why many Cities and areas in my Country have a totally differently written name, as English speakers would at least prounce it halfway right then.

Except Paris's population is just over 2 million, Marseilles is about 900k and Lyon is about 500k. They were using the city proper, not the metro area, which would put Lyon ahead of Marseilles. Anything to do with cities tends to be silly because of these types of issues.

Here's how you pronounce those Balkan cities: Banja Luka - the 'nj' sound is actually pronounced as 'ny'. So, try pronouncing it as 'Banya' instead of 'Banja', where the 'y' sound is more emphasised than 'n'. Cluj Napoca - again, the 'j' sound is actually pronounced as 'y'. The first word does not sound like the English word 'cludge'. Nikšić - yeah, this is tough for foreigners! The letter 'š' is pronounced as the english 'sh', or the German 'sch'. The letter 'ć' is pronounced...uh this is hard for English speaking people! Have you ever heard Italians saying "ciao"? It sounds like the letter 'c' in that word. And the letter 'i' is in Serbo-Croat languages always pronounced as the English letter 'e', when you're spelling it.
