Sponge played a free show at Tower Records in Boston to promote this album A mosh pit broke out Crowd surfing ensued....kids being thrown full body weight into shelves of CDs and merchandise flying everywhere The manager freaked out "this is a record store!!! Please stop!!!" The band proclaimed "this is the best free show ever!!"" Late 90s...good times

It's also worth remembering the time in which this song came out. The mid 90s saw a considerable boom in the consumption of the SSRI family of anti-depressants, like Prozac or Paxil. Many people suspect that the heavy marketing push behind these drugs was a large part of their new popularity, and they were being prescribed in cases where other forms of treatment would have been more appropriate, but patients wanted Prozac because they saw it on TV.

I can actually specifically remember the exact time at which it suddenly became legal to advertise prescription drugs on television. Because remember until the mid-'90s there was literally a law against it. No RX ads on TV whatsoever until they changed the rule. Within a few years that was all there was during the commercials.

It struck me as somewhat of an indictment of the prescription drug push. But also, an indictment of the miracle cure infomercial-“got (insert problem here)?! Well, HAVE WE GOT A SOLUTION FOR YOU! In three easy steps (introduce obscure Swedish doctor)...” Ah. The 90s. Prescription drugs readily prescribed, miracle cures abound.

@@dannyburns1867 I went to high school with the son of a WRIF lawyer. He said nobody at the station liked him, and that he wouldn't be on air too much longer as a result. Then and now I found that sad. He did his job as a good traditional DJ playing as much good music as theyd let him. There were blatantly some toe stepping personality nutcases, and other ridiculous behaviors routine listeners of the past got clued into. 15 years ago I spent a year in Phoenix, then shortly after the SF Bay, and realized how truly awful detroit radio is. Drew used to make fun of people who called out the superiority of every other region's radio stations, but they were right. Then right after I got back drew and Mike got taken off the air. 10 years later I still don't listen to the radio here. It's complete shit, especially without Drew and Mike's humor pre FCC crackdown that was such a memorable part of my childhood.

@@dannyburns1867 To be clear and specific I think some others were jerks, and to be fully honest- at least one case of a full blown narcissistic psychopath. I have never heard of a reason to dislike Arthur P, whereas I intuitively disliked many others of the era. The post Janet Jackson titty exposure at the super bowl fcc crackdown neutered Drew and Mike 20 years ago. They got real scared of getting hammered by complaints and fines. Much has fluctuated and changed since, never mind other places.

I remember when this tune came out. I gave it about a 20, I remember radio station ' pushing ' it and hearing a lady dj talking about how she couldn't wait to hear it again. I thought " really? " You don't have any better going than that? We used to call it ' Waxy Static '. Reminded me of old washing machine I was trying to fix.

One of the most underrated singles of the '90s. '96 genius. I remember blasting this album on my Discman (ha) at the start of sophomore year of high school. I took a drink from the water fountain and some field hockey chick came up right behind me as this song was pumping me up and I gave her this "f*ck" look as I turned and walked away.
