SPLIT FIRST IMPRESSIONS | Zagreb To Split Bus | Croatia Travel Vlog

Arriving in Split, Croatia! Today we travel from Zagreb To Split on a bus and see more of Croatia and it's coast line in this vlog.. ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇ Learn to travel full-time: bit.ly/2PjaPey
Welcome to Split! We've heard so much about this little coastal town in Croatia that we knew we'd have to travel here soon. Fortunately grabbing a bus or train is easy via geni.us/eurotravel so we had a cheap and easy bus ride!
Split is definitely a beautiful place, the old streets have a lot of charm but it's got that coastal Croatian feel that you just can't avoid! Hopefully that comes across in this travel vlog anyway, it was Sep 2018 we visited.
Travel to Split seems really straight forward because of it's popularity and there is always a bus or boat coming and going! Getting in and out of the city is definitely straight forward and for the most part our journey from Zagreb To Split was painless.

Split is known as a living museum because of the incredibly well preserved Roman architecture. You can actually see how people lived. It’s quite spectacular and yes very busy. It’s one of the most expensive areas in Croatia. Look forward to seeing more. 👍

Dears, the most mind blowing thing about Split old town, is that big part of it was originally not a town in sense of streets and buildings... It was one huge palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian. Some streets were then corridors, some building walls were just walls of huge rooms. The Dalmatia region was an old Roman province, that is why you can meet Roman soldiers there!

Welcome to our city :) if you need any recommandations on where to go, where to eat good etc feel free to ask! Edit: just watched the video, you guys didn't see much so make sure to climb the marjan hill and Sustipan park, go the the view point (vidilica), also think about renting bikes and go all the way around marjan, it's truly beautiful nature. If you dont find it cold, go to Znjan or Kasjuni beach, they are nice. If you want to go shopping, Mall of Split is the largest mall in Croatia. That is if you will spend more time in Split. Also, if going to Trogir make sure to stop in a town called Solin. It hasn't got a lot to offer but there is nice picturesqe city centre so you can stop and grab a coffee on your way to Trogir :) cheers

Hi, my wife and I have been to Split a number of times for some years now... we normally stay in Croatia from three weeks to a month in the Dalmatian Coast, usually south of Split in the Makarska Riviera, and then go back to Poland from Split... a place so lovely and filled with history and beauty. Just for your info, Diocletian was a roman emperor born in Spalato, or Split... he was the first emperor who retired, which is why around year 305 AD he ordered the construction of that palace, really a small walled city to come back to his birthplace... for some reason, after a peaceful coexistence, he became one of the fiercest roman emperors to persecute Christians. The irony is that a few centuries later, his temple became a Christian Cathedral, hence the tower, added at that time. The "roman soldiers" you see there are a reminder of those times, and at times you can see a "Diocletian" talking to his adoring fans at the Peristyle, as that vivid continuous porch was called in ancient times. Thanks for the video... we had our tickets ready but we can't go because of the pandemic! hopefully everything gets back to normal soon.

I think these guys are kiwis! I love Split. Best icecream in the world...double dip choc chip chocolate...From Zagreb, you go under a tunel on the way and come out in middle earth. Amazing. Different vegetation, weather and everything looks different. Game of Thrones was filmed along that coastline too...and they said they filmed some of the game of thrones scenes in the castle in Split. Under the castle is something you must do. Incredible history about how they were holed up in there for a hundred years or something crazy like that and tossed their garbage through holes in the floor and the garbage decomposed over time to solidify somewhat and now has been cleared out and the under castle is where you can actually have conventions etc now, Incredible place.

I am so happy to see two people enjoying themselves as much as I did from Jun through Aug of 2018, in Croatia. I was there, alone, for a dental procedure, after being ripped off 3 times for bad dental work in the USA, I made a point to research and take the plunge to visit the home country of my Great Grandfather: Croatia. They have renouned advanced dental clinics, and 1/10th of the cost. I stayed in Zagreb approximately 5 weeks, never spent more than US$55 a night on Booking.com, for newly remodelled, high-rise, lovely apartments both there and in Rijeka I did have a rental car for 4 weeks of it, it was super cheap, and I also found it FANTASTIC that Uber is there, and also super cheap. I am a car enthusiast, and swapped it out at the end of my trip for two days and got an Alpha Romeo Guila Quadrofolio for 2 days, just to take down to the coast in Rijeka, and visit the Grobnik Automotodrom to get onto the racetrack... WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! The food is fresh and amazing EVERYWHERE, people smile, and take pride in keeping at a nice steady pace, while doing everything top notch and with style everywhere (unlike the rushed and tumbled society in the USA). And an added bonus to all those who don't know this, almost everyone there speaks English, very well. I didn't turn on a television for nearly 4 weeks because I was living life, for the first time in a very long time, and exploring all of Zagreb. When I finally did turn one on I quickly learned that they have most of our television shows with Croatian (Hrvatski) subtitles. Friends that I made there said that's how they learned English at a young age. The people of this wonderful place are all kind, smart, generous, and fun people, for sure! The most beautiful part of the trip was driving down to Istra County, to a beach town called Umag very close to the Italian/Slovenia/Croatian border on the Croatia side. Go see the lighthouse there in the middle of the night.... it is just epic. Adriatic Sea is cleaner than anything I have ever seen in the world, and not overcrowded at all in the middle of August. My long term plan is to emigrate to Zagreb from Phoenix, Arizona.. that's how much I enjoyed it. Thank you for posting your video. Cheers!

Travnik are in northern part of the country - Bosnia. B&H is much cheaper since it is not in European Union. Hope to see some videos from my homeland in the future :)

Make sure you turn into every little street inside the palace walls. I have been a number of times and am still amazed that I keep finding cool little streets and churches I have not seen before, especially in the corners of the palace. If the street looks like somewhere not to go, then go there its usually where the best surprises lay.

Okay, I’m loving this video! You’re making me want to jump back on the plane and go back to anywhere Europe! I love old towns and architecture! My wife and I are back to reality now after spending two weeks in Italy. That was pure heaven walking around places like Venice and Florence and not to mention spending too much money on gelato and gigantic toasted sandwiches 😂 but anyway, the scenery looks so incredible in this video especially the slow motion scenes thru the old town. Beautiful! 😁

Daneger and Stacey Hahahaa.. yes the toasted sandwiches if you choose wisely are quite amazing! A lot of the ingredients I couldn’t understand because of the menus being in Italian but I was good at guessing. There was a place in Bologna, Italy called Breaking Toast. I had pre-planned to go there so I knew it was pretty close to the hotel. I ordered three sandwiches. One for my wife, one for me and one to split in half. We barely finished the one sandwich not because it wasn’t good but because they were SO BIG! 😂 The sandwiches are actually very healthy and filled with great cheeses and the sliced meats, etc you find in Europe. There’s also a lot of vegetarian options but I’m not a vegetarian Haha.. After this place in Bologna, I found myself running into similar sandwich places in both Florence and Milan that were close to the hotels so we couldn’t resist. But yes, gigantic toasted sandwiches! Hahahaa As a side note, there’s also another sandwich option called a Piadina sandwich. They’re not huge like the toasted sandwich but they are equally as tasty. Piadina’s are basically italian flatbread sandwiches. Very crispy and delicious! Maybe you guys can eventually make your way to Italy? 🤩 Definitely recommend Florence and the beautiful surrounding areas of Tuscany.

I arrived on their Independence day, I believe is Jun 26th. The weather was perfect, never over 90F and the humidity was manageable. I am an American born Croatian, and Us Croatians LOVE our air conditioning. I don't believe there was one place that I visited, be it restaurant, gas station, shopping center, or residence, that did not have Air Conditioning. Hungary, for comparison, was another story....(I didn't have a pleasant experience in Budapest). If you are planning a trip to Zagreb, the entire city residents close up all the local businesses and heads out of town to their vacation properties along the Adriatic coast. Zagreb was bustling until mid-July just after the World Cup, and then all of a sudden, poof, it was an empty town, with a very lightly populated skeleton population exists In Zagreb until mid/late August when everyone returns in droves. I loved it at that time because it was peaceful and easy to explore around. I highly urge you to use Booking.com for all of your accommodations in Zagreb, Karlovac, and Rijeka. And try to book your accommodations from within Croatia, after you go to TMobile and pick up an unlimited High-Speed 4G SIM card for your phone, for $13 a week. It gives you a Croatian phone number with unlimited data. EVERYONE uses Whatsapp for phone calls, so you don't need a regular phone line. This is key: having a local IP and local Croatian phone number, makes it so you pay the local rate pricing for flights, cars, and accommodations on Booking.com. For the same room, I would have been charged an extra $30 a night using my American SIM card in my phone. It Nuts how that works (I blame greedy USA, not Croatia for this). Anyways, After posting two reviews on booking.com, I started getting 20-30% off discounts everywhere. I rented one bedroom apartment in Tresvynka Village (spelling is bad) on the west end of Zagreb, on the edge of Cromerec Village (both great areas to really experience to Croatian life), and a two-bedroom place called Sweet Corner Katrovec, also found on Booking.com. Both places were less than US$55 a night. Rented a city-center 2-bedroom apartment for $60 a night. ALL THREE WERE FABULOUS. All Possessions were always safe, and let me tell you, I carry BAGGAGE as much shopping as I did for nearly 7 kunas to a dollar, everything was about 1/4 of the cost you would pay for same services and products in the USA. I felt safer than anywhere in the USA walking around at 3am. Once you head SW on the E65 Autoceste tollway, the next big metro (actually a really small city) is called Karlovac (Pronounced Car-low-vaatz). This is where I had an especially emotional moment, as this was the city where my Great Grandfather lived prior to him fleeing to the USA in early 1900. Karlovac was much more humid, as it surround by 3 large rivers that pass through, and has the most stunning views and food from anywhere you stop. I stayed at a place that is near downtown, I believe the short road it was on is called Lukcic', that was on top of a brand new auto repair shop facility, and the owner had named one of the apartments up above the "Kupa," after one of the rivers that passed through the city. Go on Booking.com, and also was around $55 a night. The owner and his wife were so kind, accommodating, allow me privacy, and was an impeccably Modern style decorated with exquisite attention to detail that made it a pleasure to stay, and wished I had booked more than two nights there. You also cannot miss "Choco Factory" that is right next door to the Kupa/Car repair shop apartment... They have the best cakes and goodies compared to any coffee shop I have eaten at in the 15 countries I have traveled. If you want me to give you further suggestions about Rijeka and Istra county, please let me know, as those are also two AWESOME areas, especially Grobnik Automotodrom Race track, just outside Rijeka. Got to get to bed and work in the morning. Cheers!

@@DanegerAndStacey Don't worry... this silly American kept trying to ask where "Karla-Vack" was.... (Karlovac c=tz). Or worse, the moment I was in the Bauhaus store (Croatian Home Depot), and dictated to my Google translator, "Where can I find shipping boxes." My iPhone has a mind of its own at times, and she heard me all right.... and perfectly translated to the store clerk in Hrvatski,k really loudly, "Where can I shit in a box?" LOL The look on the dude's face was priceless for a sec, and then we both couldn't stop laughing. I am sure you both have had this happen in the places you have traveled to. Maybe I am biased, but Croatia and London, UK, were the only two destinations that everyone was so laid back, and laughed WITH me, instead of at me, when I would unknowingly pull a stunt like this.
