EMPTY STREETS & WINE TASTING IN HVAR ISLAND | Stari Grad | Sail Croatia Day 5 & 6 of 8

Hvar is one of the most popular islands in Croatia - in this vlog we travel to Stari Grad Old Town & taste wine at a winery... ⬇ Click 'Show More'
Hvar island in Croatia has a lot more to it than just the bars, winery spots, clubs and restaurants found in the main cruise port. In this vlog we explore Stari Grad, one of/if not the oldest town in Croatia. It's full of tiny streets, but not full of people!
Wine in Croatia is amazing. Trust us. While in Stari Grad we got the chance to taste a lot more Croatian wines at a local winery - an excursion as part of our Sail Croatia trip.
If you're considering visiting Hvar we highly recommend you also consider seeing Stari Grad, it may be small, but it definitely feels a lot more local and Croatian than it's older party brother.
Sail Croatia is known for it's Navigator cruise, it's more tailored towards the party vibe and younger crowds. We were so pleased to hear they also offer multiple other cruises and the Explorer cruise was right up our alley! See here for more details: bit.ly/ExplorerCruiseDandS

Sailing Croatia saved my life, I was suicidal, had lost all hope. Travelling around showed me life is about sunsets, nice wine, good food, sex, love and travel. Never stress the small stuff, there is a huge world and different ways of life to discover ❤️

It's amazing to see these old towns built with chiseled local stones and rocks. There are no forests and no clay soil to make bricks. So things were done the hard way...no matter how long it took. By the way I too would have chosen wine tasting over more strenuous exercise... Actually, every time I feel like exercising I take a quick nap until the feeling passes... "Plavac" is my favorite wine.

Judging by the comments section, you timed your visit to perfection by missing the August peak season. How amazing to have such a beautiful place seemingly to yourselves. Those palm trees in the square were pretty amazing. But the visit to the winery looked a blast! I love vineyards and wineries and have done ever since visiting one with a friends family in the Loire valley in France back in 1972. Loved the way you guys just about contained the effects of the wine in your closing shots - just about ha ha!!

We are West Aussies so international trips still not allowed. The boat you were on has been renamed and now part of their elegance cruises. Although in our 50's we are young and like to be around people like yourselves. Thanks heaps for posting.

The water thingy you saw was the former place to wash clothes. You don't see the current, but it's there. Always fresh water, because it flows slowly. This also exists in my parents town of Ston. There it's called velika voda, which translates to big water and it pretty much looks exactly the same.

Funny story - I remember in Hvar, when we got to the fortress on the top and looked at our yacht, we realized it was drifting through the middle of the bay. Luckily some of the crew was in the harbour and they got to the yacht just before it hit another yacht - they guys from the other were already standing on the deck with fenders & boat hooks to keep our yacht hitting theirs. Apparently the mooring line we used was damaged & it snapped with the bigger boat passing by and our anchor was just sliding on the rocky bottom, not keeping the yacht in place...

Ah yes, this is my homeland. Completely empty and ghostly with no living culture and people, just empty houses waiting for tourists. What was once a thriving hard working culture of local fishermen and farmers is now just random tourist workers pretending to represent something that they only heard of in local folk tales. I grew up on a smaller island in central Dalmatia region and watched it being consumed by tourism to the point that I don't even recognize it anymore. Have fun!
