I loved Split Enz in those days. Just fun-zany music for fun-zany people like myself.
There's a few of us Split Enz fans in the states too. Used to have a VHS tape of music videos of theirs. Big thanks to you.
Great reaction again... This song answers the question "Tell me you're a Beatles fan without telling me you're a Beatles fan".
great band from new Zealand ! :-)
Thanks for this awesome piece of NOSTALGIA. The 80s just came rushing through my mind. Great reactions. Love your channel. Liked and subbed.

I actually saw this video on TV in England back in 1977..
Noel Crombie created their look and played minor percussion (tambourine, etc.).

Thanks for hitting one of my all time favorite albums.
Great band. Saw them on one of their few US tours in 82. The drummer did a spoon solo.

Split Enz based this song loosely on Paul McCartney's 1971 song ''Monkberry Moon Delight''. Three years after Split Enz called it a day, Eddie Rayner (Enz piano/keyboard guy) would be working with McCartney.

Cool track from the early days of The Finn Brothers & Split Enz. Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick Produced this .. thus the sound ! Big band in the early days of MTV 📺 .
I remember seeing them live in London in 1976. Say whatever you like.. I thought they were a lot more interesting than a lot of the punk groups around at the time. Deaf School were also a groovy little band to see around the same time. I was at their gig and saw punk hipsters like Siouxsie Sioux. They were there too. These guys were tight!
Thanks for introducing me to this band. I think this is great. For some reason it made me want to go and play the Hot Fuss album by The Killers. Right from Jenny Was a Friend of Mine to the end.

Good catch on the nationality Chris. Us New Zealanders will forgive you, this time 😂😂
Thanx for the reaction, and using the nzoz1977 upload. Split Enz has been taking down good quality uploads of their work, and replacing them with inferior uploads. Anyway, it's good to see this reaction.

New Zealand band
I first became aware of Split Enz in 1975 when they moved to Australia from New Zealand. They were an oddity. I was always interested when they came on TV (particularly Countdown) and enjoyed watching their oddball music videos. However, we were all obsessed with Skyhooks, because they had hits songs with dirty lyrics and their songs got banned on radio. Hooks were pretty edgy, and Enz were just arty and unorthodox. We Aussie teens only began to back Split Enz when Skyhooks got old and boring, and ''I See Red'' was a horse we were happy to back. Then ''I Got You'' was released a year later and it got to # 1. Very cool time to be alive..

@@mightyV444 Smut, You Just Like Me coz I'm Good In Bed, Why Don't You All Get F*cked.. Then try All My Friends Are Getting Married, Horror Movie, Living In The 70's, Million Dollar Riff, Blue Jeans, Women In Uniform.. They were very big in Australia in the mid 70's, and I got to see them on Countdown. Parents of Australia took them more seriously than us kids did. I also liked Supernaut, and their songs ''I Like It Both Way'' and ''Lick My Lolly'''.

@@mightyV444 You'd probably like Skyhooks 70's stuff. I was Skyhooks crazy in the mid 70's, but like many Aussie kids, I was fickle and had a short attention span. Iron Maiden recorded ''Women In Uniform'' (might be worth a comparison reaction) early in their career. The kids in the studio audience were typical Skyhooks fans, and typical of Aussie teens during that time. Skyhooks were a phenomenon.
Very familiar names indeed! 😄 (of the people who'd requested this) And didn't you still have a beard only yesterday, Chris?! 🤔😄 By the way, and speaking off sudden hair loss: Maybe also check out Split Enz's song 'Sweet Dreams' ! The clip isn't the greatest quality but you definitely wanna watch that, too! The audio is fine and in stereo, though 😊👍

At _this_ point in their career, they had two people from the UK in their line-up, though; Malcolm Green (dr) and Nigel Griggs (b). But of course you're ultimately right, and they've always been considered to be from NZ 😊 Unlike Crowded House, whom some regard as being Australian, others as being Kiwi.

A mixed group, really. Same area, I suppose.
@lindascott6902
Жыл бұрын
No, not really. Both Australia and NZ have a significant number of citizens not born in that country. But Split Enz isn’t a “mixed” band... it is 100% NZ, formed in Auckland in 1973. This point is important to some of us, as NZ at the time was a country of 3M (now 5M) and Australia is so insecure about its own recognition internationally, that it “claims” anything successful in NZ as it’s own.
