Splish Splash my food is taking a bath...Or is it?

Contrary to popular belief, raccoons don't "wash" their food before eating it. One of the reasons theorized about this curious behavior is that a raccoon's paws are extremely sensitive and have the same nerve groupings on the hairless parts of their paws like humans and primates do. This makes them sensitive to touch and can transmit information to the brain regarding the weight, size, texture, etc of the item in their paws. Cleaning off any dirt or debris from their food is just an added benefit.

I read the description. My Uncle had a pet raccoon Rocky. He would let us kids feed him apples. He would wash them in the water. Now you have me wondering if Rocky was really washing them. Thanks for video. Take care 🦝

As Sweet Sue has taught us, the raccoons often put food in water so their sensors in paws identify what they are about to eat, unque isn't it? So cute❤
