SPL Suspension Essentials for the R35 Nissan GTR: Drag and Road Course Setups

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video covers which suspension arms you should buy for your R35 GT-R. We cover how they work and why we use them when dialing in your specific alignment for both your drag GTR as well as your track day / road course GTR. Often times this part is overlooked when upgrading your suspension components to meet your goals of a low ET at the drag strip or your personal best lap time at your favorite road course.
SPL Parts (in our opinion) is the leader in this space for adjustable arms for the R35 GT-R not to mention many other platforms that they support. The fine adjustments that their arms allow for give you the ability to dial in your alignment of the vehicle to exactly what you want instead of just getting it "close enough". The spherical ends that are used help get rid of the rubber bushing deflection that causes the alignment settings to change under load which is a big issue especially at the drag strip when having a proper alignment on the launch is crucial.
Here are just a few more highlights of what these arms provide:
- Lightweight Aluminum and Titanium construction
- Electroless nickel plated 4130 Chromoly Double Adjuster for quick adjustment
- Computer Aided Design with the aid of Finite Element Analysis
- Blue Anodized Titanium socket head caps screws
- Low friction 3/4" 3-piece Teflon lined FK Rod Ends and Spherical Bushings
- Black Anodized for a durable finish

Is it possible to get the front upper control arm with the rod end replaced with rubber bushing instead of the spherical?

Unfortunately, no… in most use cases we leave the lower control arm bushings OEM to maintain some compliance in the suspension for street driving. If you are concerned about ride quality these do not impact that a significant amount. Especially if you are using a rubber bushing on the coil over top hat…. For maximum track performance we replace all OEM bushings.

It does add some harshness but nothing excessive. You will feel that pot hole more than you would have before but on other surfaces you likely won’t notice the difference in ride quality.

Is this a good street set up?

As long as you don’t get the spherical bushings yes it is a great setup for the street. Just enough compliance that it doesn’t make it unpleasant to drive but there when you want to push the car.
