SPL Subwoofer Competition: HIPPO XL-12 -vs- FORCE 12S -vs- XFL-12

This video features an SPL Competition between Massive Audio HIPPO XL-1222, American Bass XFL-1222 and the TORO Tech Force 12S subwoofers. Many will be surprised by the victor of this subwoofer SPL Competition.
Let's do a complete unboxing of the Massive Audio HIPPO XL 122 and inspect its build quality, build a custom enclosure and demo it at 2,000 watts. Massive Audio Was first requested, on this channel, back in June of this year. I was able to pick up the HIPPO XL 122 over at Amazon for about $350.
Massive Audio has been creating Car Audio Products Since 1999. They have built a reputable name for themselves, with subwoofer lineups such as the HIPPO and SUMO series.
Today I am very excited to have a member of the HIPPO series to review and give you guys an honest opinion on its build quality and performance.

So, let me explain a few things about what just happened here?
First of all, at some point 90% of you guys voted the XFL-12 to take the title against the TORO Tech Force 12S and Massive Audio HIPPO XL-1222.
And in a particular way, some may say that it kinda did.
But as a content creator, here on this channel, my job is to simplify your audio experiences
By taking what seems complicated and relay it to you in plain English.
I believe that most of the votes for the XFL was based upon brand recognition and loyalty, as it should be, with a company that’s be around for over a 3rd of a century.
But the truth of the matter is this, the TORO FORCE 12S, Is a solidly built SPL subwoofer, in which few in the community has ever heard of. But Its X-Max, Sensitivity, and QTS rating closely matches that of the XFL. And despite being tested far from its suggested frequency, it still defeated the American Bass.
But looking at the spec sheets, one may think the XFL is out of its league, and that its big brothers in the HD lineup, would probably be a better match-up.
After all, the XFL is 500W RMS short of its competitors.
And nowhere near the weight in magnet.
But what the XFL lacks in pure power, it make up for it elsewhere.
For Example:
The XFL has more X-Max = more usable mechanical travel
It has a lower Fs=which promotes a wider frequency response
And it also has a larger basket, equaling, greater surface area, enhancing SPL.
However, after running these tests I felt like I was being unfair to the HIPPO and Force 12S.
Testing in an enclosure over 15Hz below recommended tuning, really isn’t the proper way to do this.
Which is why I will be building a new enclosure and conducting this competition again.
So the questions become, will the XFL do as great a job in an enclosure built for its competitors?
Will the HIPPO XL-12 use this second chance to redeem itself to the community?
Or will the TORO Force another under-dog victory; as the new SPL Kid on the block?

I use to have a TORO Force 12s and let me tell you, I was absolutely blown away with how great that sub performed for how little it cost! I highly recommend giving this new brand a chance!

I've learned so much from your channel... my 6th order boxes are amazing based on some of the things you teach... and my 6.5 TOROs in a duel 6th order box sounds SO good.... and I currently have my FORCE 12S in a 4th order (temporary while I build another 6th order for the 12s) and WOW the 12s gets better and better every day with about a week at 1000-1200RMS tomorrow I'll turn my amp up and really see what the 12s can do... its already a power house of a sub.... all my Toro subs have just blown my mind with performance at a super Budget price... the FORCE 8s are the best 8s I've ever had.... anyway... awesome video keep up the good work BB

I heard massive audio 15s in a demo and they sound Good!! It must have been a custom box because they honestly didn't sound as bad as I have heard with other brands..
I just wish i could know if the xr is better,equivalent, or worse than the xfl???

Keep up the great videos! Very professional. Only thing I could recommend is getting an SMD to see how much actual RMS power each of these speakers are getting. This way we can see if the manufacturer RMS are real.

Did you break the subs in before you tested them? It's a must for all and longevity.7-10 hours on half power
Can you test the Ampere Audio 12s and the Deafbonce 12s?
Can you do a shallow mount subwoofer comparison you know JL DD audio Rockford Fosgate kicker scar Infinity they all have shallow mount Subs

The toro or massive..that orion xtr 1500 is a powerful amp
just finished a system on my 2021 hrv, the rockford t122d 479 dolllar sub i was using in another vehicle is blown af with the voice coil rubbing horribly in the new box.....ordered this toro force 12 last night, we'll see how it does for a couple hundred bucks less...

been in there for like a week now, much quicker than any other 12"sub I've used in the last 30 years. we'll see how it holds up, but it's not even broken in fully yet & I'm very impressed. I still go back & forth about whether I shoulda used the xfl & maybe the xfl woulda been even better but that 53 lb weight of the toro was what helped me decide to go with it...you wont be disappointed buying the toro or the xfl i suppose, the massive audio sub just seems a bit too pricey when compared to the toro & xfl really

I've been looking at Torotech for a while now. Just haven't had the bravery to try them. Maybe I should try a couple Force 12's after seeing this.

Great video. I reall like the way you explained all the important aspects of all subs. I love American Bass. I nver had a Hippo or a Torex sub but they look badass. I'm with SoundQubed at the moment. They can not only take a serious beating, they sound great. They sound really good in a big box. Do you break in the subs before doing these tests?

I personally don't think anyone should have to break in a sub. A subwoofer should perform, as advertised, fresh out the box. Now, if you are someone who wants a softer suspension, a break-in is a great way to go. But I only test 'out-of-box' performance. Thanks.

@@BudgetBassHead I agree. But I have been with SoundQubed for a while now and you have to break them in because the suspension is so stiff, if you dont, you'll burn the coils and or tear the spiders.
What's better Toro amps or Skar amps?
Didn't the XFL do higher in the 6th order reflex box? I would like to see all 3 in a higher tuned box where the Massive and Toro might shine, and how all 3 do. The XFL despite the difference in power handling did great here. Awesome comparison! Thank you good sir!

Which is clean , tight accurate bass?
I recognize my old car , impala and that big ass trunk it had !!! My favorite car ever. But I've been waiting to try the Toros , can't wait til they're on sale again , they're looking for dealers right now and after they secure a couple dealers they're gonna have a big sale again

Yeah thats xfl needs at least 2.5 feet min i had mine in a 3.5ft tuned to 32 and my lawd is all i will say
Use a aeroport or( round)vs a slot , a round port you can change in minutes and have all sorts of ports to switch out..

They all sound similar. But I like the TORO.
I can vouch for the hippo xl I had a 15 not a 12 but it's still a good sub. One of the reasons the xfl was louder than the xl is because the xfl was being pushed harder.

How was it pushed harder it even is 500w less rms than the hippo i have a 10xfl now im about to replace with a 10d2hippo because my xfl is 900 wired to my amp while the hippo will be wired for 1800

@@nismonissan87 D2 1500rms sub vs D2 2000rms the 1500 is going to be pushed harder because it is less watts. Also the hippo is stiffer so it's going to take even more to get it moving unlike a soft suspension on the xfl.

Dual Audiopipe APMN 2000.1D Class-D amplifiers. Strapped @ 4ohms roughly 2,500W RMS power.
My opinion id take some hippos over alot of the subwoofers out there.my buddy is running 2 15s massive hippos with viking banda 8k.damm its over kill loud.love how it bumps
The American Bass XFL is a 1000w sub that can handle up to 1500w. Try the Hawk instead.
The Toro seemed louder out of the box because it has softer spiders. Use the XFL for a week and see what happens if you’re going to make videos please inform the viewers!! You compared three subwoofers without comparing suspensions or anything for that matter

A I need the truth about theses band's. No joke I'm vesting hundreds and thousands and I want great quality for my money without going broke. Not everybody on to the fact that a new brand could be so productive. Some people got sponsors in connection to their KZread station. Some people are promoting a personal brand of speaker that they're are making. I need a channel that is representational of the car audio industry itself. TORO was one of the band's I was looking at thank for the head to head review and you are honest telling me that the box may be the differences in sound quality for the other 2 speakers that's real so I now follow you channel 😀.

Bullshit the xfl is not as loud I had a hippo xl and it's much louder than that xfl.

Parker has an SUV and a Pickup. He's not restricted to the trunk. Trunk builds, traditionally, doesn't do the same SPL numbers as SUV's, pickups and Hatchbacks.

He did the Toro 12 in the Suv, but it only hit 138 db. Faced sideways though. That may have skewed the results. Like your videos. Nice to get as much info when buying a sub. Keep it up bro.

I have the massive xlr 12s hippos and they are good for high frequency they are 42 hertz so the lowest you want to make your enclosure is 38 hertz anything lower doesn't sound deep i have sundown xv3 12s psi platform 4 15 dd3515 fi neo 4.11 18 and fi hc 15s and top 3 would be dd fi psi sundown then massive this is my experience with different setups and enclosures

Seems obvious to me that foam dosent seal the box , nor does every sub work best in the same size box . J.s

My single xfl 12 hits harder and lower than my 2 sundown sa12s same truck and the sundowns are getting twice the power. 100% FACTS

The Toro I have personally purchased and they are garbage, I bought the component speakers also and they were terrible. They are made by the same build house as the massive audio subs.

I have a FORCE 12S and it is an amazing sub... I've only had it hooked up for a week on a Toro R5 and I thought at 1st it was absolutely amazing,... but every day it gets better and better I think I'll turn my amp up now that I've given it a week at 1000-1200RMS watts... it really seems to be coming alive the more it is breaking in... love my Toro subs....

Toro is american same as sundown or dd or any others that design here and have them built in China for lower cost.
